A supposed bug has led players on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 to purchase the new Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War for €5. This apparently was not intended, as they are now reporting error messages and can no longer play.
What was this deal? In December 2020, PlayStation players could buy the new Cold War in the PS Store for €5. For this money, they received the “Crossgen Bundle,” which includes the base game for PS4 and PS5, as well as some skins and blueprints.
The bundle normally costs €74.99 in the store. Interested players could save a significant amount of money here.
The offer was only available for a short time and it apparently was a mistake, as it was disabled shortly afterward. Now, some players report that they see an error message stating that their game license is invalid.
“Cold War” licenses are invalid
This is what Sony says: Players report that they now see error messages on their consoles. According to these, the license they purchased is “only available for owners of the digital version of Black Ops Cold War on PS4.”
They now suspect that the €5 purchase was merely the digital upgrade from PS4 to PS5, not the actually more expensive Crossgen Bundle. According to the message, players can no longer play and will be refunded.
Supposedly, owners of the version can still play for the moment, but likely not for long. Those who want to continue playing should purchase Cold War in the PS Store according to the message.
Shortly after the mishap, there was an actual discount for Cold War, where the Crossgen Bundle was reduced by 27%. Additionally, the popular zombie mode was also completely free for a while.
On the deal platform mydealz.de, users are not very upset about the aftermath. Most accept that it was a mistake and took the short time to play through the campaign. Since the money has been refunded, it is not all that tragic.
More problems in Cold War: With an upcoming change, an old issue has resurfaced. CoD Cold War is getting a ranked mode and players are now demanding the removal of “skill-based matchmaking.” This annoying topic has been around for several years and versions of Call of Duty. Whether it will change this time remains to be seen.
