The new season of Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War is approaching and will launch on Thursday (August 12). MeinMMO provides an overview of the most important information regarding release, content, and Battle Pass.

What to expect in season 5? A new season means new free content, fresh additions, and a packed Battle Pass to unlock. Cold War and Warzone are entering their 5th shared season on Thursday, August 12, and aim to keep you engaged with the new offerings.
The roadmap for season 5 is now live and shows some exciting changes in the new content cycle. Among them are four 6vs6 maps for Cold War and new perks for the Battle Royale Warzone. Here you can find an overview of the information regarding the new season 5.
Warzone / Cold War: Season 5 update information
The new season starts on August 12. However, the exact time cannot be reliably determined yet. A start in the morning at 6 AM is possible, but a start in the evening is also currently feasible.
Call of Duty has already announced the start times of the downloads. You can start the update for Cold War on August 11 at 6 AM. The Warzone update will be available starting August 12 at 6 AM.
There will be larger updates again. As soon as the developers provide more information about the updates, we will update the article accordingly.
Season 5 Trailer – Cold War & Warzone

Battle Pass in Season 5
What does the Battle Pass offer? There will be a Battle Pass with 100 tiers for 1,000 CoD points.
There is a free path in the Battle Pass accessible to all players. In exchange for points and playtime, you can unlock some items from the pass for free. If you already know that you will spend more time in CoD during season 5, the premium pass is worth it. It offers you more than 100 items to unlock throughout the entire season.
In total, you can earn progress for the pass in three CoDs: CoD MW, Cold War, and Warzone share the Battle Pass. However, the content is only available for Warzone and Cold War.
Warzone & Cold War Battle Pass Season 5 with 100 tiers
- The pass costs 1,000 CoD points (approx. €10)
- Each of the 100 “tiers” offers a reward
- Operator skin available immediately upon purchase
- 2 new weapons to unlock – TEC-9 and EM2
- Weapon blueprints
- A total of 1,300 CoD points, so you can make a ‘profit’
- Legendary rewards upon completion of the pass
- Many operator skins with missions for even more skins
- Calling cards / emblems / sprays / talismans
- Vehicle items such as battle anthems or skins
- XP tokens for an experience points boost
- 10% experience boost on the Battle Pass

Who is the poster boy / poster girl of season 5? Since the launch of Cold War, villains have always been the featured operators of the seasons, and this time a henchman of the villain “Perseus” joins the game. A hacker named Kitsune:
Cold War & Warzone – Weapons & Content in Season 5
Which weapons could come in season 5? In total, four new weapons will be introduced at the start and during season 5:
- TEC-9: submachine gun in the Battle Pass at tier 31
- EM2: assault rifle in the Battle Pass at tier 15
- Cane: melee weapon available at the start of the season
- Marshal: vintage pistol during the season
What content do Cold War and Warzone share? During the mid-season, the event “The Numbers” will start. You can probably earn themed cosmetics through tasks in both CoD titles, and the story will receive a small boost through the event.
As in every season, there will also be a batch of new prestige emblems and rewards. The 4 new prestige emblems of season 5 will be embedded here:
Cold War in Season 5
What’s coming in multiplayer? A total of 5 new maps will be added in season 5, and 4 of them are 6vs6 maps:
- Echolon: Play on Berlin’s Teufelsberg, a hill of rubble and the second highest point in the capital
- Slums: A classic 3-lane map from Black Ops II in Panama City
- Drive-In (In-Season): Rework from Black Ops I. Very small map in an abandoned outdoor cinema
- Zoo (In-Season): Came to Outbreak last season and will get a 6vs6 version during season 5
Additionally, there’s a small gunfight map “Showroom” (Launch). The CoD creators also announced 2 new modes: Demolition (Search & Destroy with respawn) and Double Agent. Double Agent works like Call of Duty goes Among Us. There’s also a trailer for it:
A little cherry on top: the flamethrower is coming as a scorestreak in the multiplayer. Hints about the hot streak appeared even before the release of Cold War, and now the flamethrower is finally making it into the game.
What’s coming in zombie mode? You can further develop your skills in the fight against nasty zombies and will have new toys available in season 5:
- Perk: Death Perception – new perk soda that lets you see enemies better (upgrades are supposed to make the perk useful)
- Field Upgrade: Tesla Power – stunning storm that can spread over your teammates
- Support Weapon: Flamethrower – zombie killer for close combat. CoD makes a pun with “Firepower” in the blog
Outbreak will also get a new map (Collateral) and 2 new gadgets: a tank and a craftable grappling hook. There will also be new intel, a bonus level for the crazy Dead Ops Arcade, and new content for the PlayStation-exclusive Onslaught mode.
Warzone in Season 5 – Perks, Gulag, and 2 big rumors
What’s coming in Warzone Season 5? The battle royale is getting new locations in the form of “Mobile Broadcast Stations”. These stations can appear in different places in each round and offer strong loot. However, other teams might pay attention to you if you loot. Somehow, the stations are also connected to the Numbers event that starts mid-season.
As a highlight, the perks might take center stage. For the first time, Warzone is receiving its own perks that are supposed to rearrange the balancing of the passive bonuses:
- Combat Scout: When you hit enemies with your bullets, they are tagged with a ping, briefly visible through walls with an orange outline. Category: Still Unknown
- Tempered: Instead of needing 3 armor plates, you only need to equip 2 to have 150 armor. Category: Red
A new gulag is also coming. This time, the duel arena is based on the map “Rush” – a paintball area. The gulag should be much clearer in season 5.
Finally, the developers announced a new mode: Clash. Two teams of 50 players each will compete in a limited area in Verdansk for the most points, with many of the mechanics from the normal battle royale activated. This should be an optimal mode to test your loadouts or to level up.
What rumors are there about Warzone? The reveal of CoD 2021 is supposed to take place in Warzone during season 5, and there are indications of a next-gen version of the battle royale.
As with last year’s Cold War, the new CoD is supposedly going to be presented in Warzone as well. The reliable leaker Tom Henderson, who accurately predicted Warzone as a free-to-play title for CoD MW, stated back in February:
Tweet translation: “Call of Duty 2021 will be revealed in the middle of the year and again unveiled through Warzone. […] the best guess is probably August, similar to Cold War.”
The rumor continues to circulate, and through Activision Blizzard’s earning call, it has become more likely that CoD 2021 will also be presented in Warzone. In 2020, the first trailer for Cold War was shown in a large live event in Warzone.
Apart from the latest CoD, Warzone itself might also get a new look. Currently, it doesn’t look bad at all, that the battle royale might receive the upgrade for PS5 / Xbox Series in season 5.
However, both rumors are currently not guaranteed.
Call of Duty enters the next round and wants to persuade its players to spend another hour in-game with season 5. If there really is going to be a reveal event for the next CoD 2021 starting in Warzone, you should mark the date in your calendar. The “Cold War” event last year was unique and a special experience.
