Season 1 of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War & Warzone is online. MeinMMO summarizes the most important adjustments and innovations for you here at the start of the new season.
What’s happening in CoD? The first season of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is online. This brings the new 2020 CoD new maps, weapons, a fresh battle pass, and a lot of adjustments to weapons and equipment. Additionally, the complete prestige system goes online, allowing you to level up 1,200 levels per season.
However, the first season affects not only the latest CoD installment. The battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone also benefits greatly from the season start, gaining a significant influx of new weapons, a new map, a live event for the new map, and now shares the progression system and the battle pass with Cold War.
To give you an overview of the innovations, we have summarized the most important information for you here on MeinMMO.
Warzone with 30 new weapons & Rebirth Island
What’s new in Warzone? From the whole setup, you don’t have to get used to anything new. The Warzone is basically still the same – you can enter it through the launcher of Modern Warfare, adjust your loadouts, and work on the new battle pass. However, Season 1 of Cold War has brought a lot of new content into the battle royale.
The biggest change: the completely new map Rebirth Island. The map is designed for 45 players and is significantly smaller than the first map Verdansk. The island itself is part of the “Black Ops” story and is closely related to the dangerous nerve gas Nova 6, which played a larger role in the campaign of Black Ops 1.
Along with the map, a live event starts that runs until January 4th. It works similarly to the Halloween event for several months. Warzone presents you here with 16 tasks, and for every task you complete, you receive a themed cosmetic item. If you complete all tasks, you get a weapon blueprint on top.
Additionally, there are 31 new weapons, including a completely new weapon class – the tactical rifles. If you haven’t played Cold War yet, you will need to unlock the new firearms first. By the way, there are only new weapons, no new perks or equipment.
There have also been some changes to the progression system. If you haven’t played Cold War yet, you are back to level 1 and can play up to level 55 to get the new weapons. Afterward, you enter the prestige system of Cold War, which awards you further rewards.
Additionally, the map Verdansk will receive a new gulag that resembles a warehouse, and on Rebirth Island and in Verdansk there is a new vehicle – the attack helicopter. This is a helicopter, as you already know from Warzone, but equipped with miniguns for the occupants on the sides.

First Warzone Playlist in Season 1
- Battle Royale – 4er / 3er / 2er / Einzel
- Cash Grab 3er
- Revive 3er
How does the new revive mode work? With this mode, you enter the new map Rebirth Island, which comes with different rules at the season start than the usual battle royale in Verdansk. Although there is still a gas circle that shrinks over time, and the last surviving team wins the round.
However, with each kill of an enemy, you briefly see their remaining team on the map that is still alive. Furthermore, a “revive timer” runs, which starts at 10 minutes at the match start. Within the 10 minutes, your fallen team members will respawn if at least one of you is still alive. The downed teammates also have their own timer that brings them back after time expires, and you can shorten it by getting kills and downs of enemies during the match.
Currently, there is no gulag on Rebirth Island, but it has been announced.

Cold War with new content & many weapon changes
What’s new in Cold War? With the first season, the multiplayer of Cold War receives a load of new content and many balancing adjustments. This also includes 2 new weapons that you can now unlock.
2 new 6vs6 maps: With “The Pines” and “Raid,” two new maps enter the rotation of standard matches.
“The Pines” is described by the developers as a medium-sized map with many levels. The outdoor areas offer close combat battles, and the interior provides space for fights at greater distances.
“Raid” features the classic 3-lane system and takes place in and around a large villa in Hollywood. The map made its debut with Black Ops 2 in 2012.
As a Christmas extra, there is also a holiday version of the cult map “Nuketown”.
Gunfight mode with 4 new maps: With the season start, the 2vs2 gunfight mode from Modern Warfare returns. Here, you fight in small maps for quick, intense battles. 4 dedicated maps have been added that are intended only for this mode:
- Game Show
- ICBM
- KGB
- Underground
Prop-Hunt mode returns: In the party mode “Prop Hunt,” you are either hunters or hunted. In the hunted team, you take on the appearance of a typical map object and must hide from the hunter team.
The new battle pass is online: With each new season, a fresh battle pass goes online, providing you with some cosmetic items for experience points / playtime. Learn more about the Season 1 battle pass here.
