Weapon leveling in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War takes a good amount of time. With a new update, it is now a bit faster, but you need to play the right mode.
Which mode now brings more weapon levels? You can now level your weapons faster in the PvE mode “Zombies”.
With an update on November 25, the developers at Treyarch actually revised an exploit that allowed players to gain more XP on their weapon during 2XP events than intended. However, the developers completely changed the weapon leveling in the Zombie mode and believe that it is noticeably faster now:
A problem has been resolved that allowed players to collect more weapon XP than intended in Zombies during 2XP events. The fix also includes general weapon XP optimizations, leading to faster weapon leveling in Zombies.
The developers do not go into detail about why it is faster or how much more XP the Zombie mode now provides. However, the CoD makers apparently see the complaints from many players who criticize the slow progression of weapon levels.
Update November 27: The YouTube channel “COD Zombies HQ” states that with just under 2,000 Zombie eliminations before the patch, you could reach weapon level 12, and after the update, you can get to level 16. The tests took place during a double XP event.
Cold War: Update on November 25 – More Patch Notes
The update from November 25 has even more to offer. The developers addressed stability issues:
- A problem with crashes in the game mode “Domination” has been fixed
- There were sometimes crashes when using the ping
- There was a problem when loading into a multiplayer match that could lead to crashes
On these points, Treyarch also does not provide further details, but at least 3 causes of game crashes in Cold War have disappeared. A major update over the last weekend (November 20) already eliminated 20 such issues and changed 12 weapons.
In closing, the update also brought another game mode for the new chaos map “Nuketown”:
- Hardcore Nuketown 24/7 was added to the “Quick Play” selection
Hardcore players no longer have to endure the normal modes if they want to jump into chaos on the small map. You can read the complete patch notes in English on the Treyarch blog.
What’s going on with Cold War? With Nuketown, the first new map after the release came on November 24. However, things will really kick off on December 10, not just for the new Black Ops, but also Warzone and CoD MW will join in.
With the start of Season 1 on December 10, the level systems of the 3 CoDs will merge. No matter which CoD you play, everything counts towards your level progress and gives you points in the large prestige system, which shows your progress over multiple seasons.
In Warzone, you can even use and level up weapons from Cold War and CoD MW. Whether this happens all at once or staggered is not yet known. Here you can read what else is expected in the first season of Cold War.
