New Season is packed: In Season 5 of Black Ops: Cold War, fans can expect many innovations. One new feature stands out from this list: the Double Agent game mode. Its “cat and mouse” principle should be familiar to some due to the resounding success of Among Us. But Season 5 offers much more:
- 2 new game modes – “Double Agent” and “Demolition”
- A fresh Battle Pass with 100 tiers
- 5 new 6v6 multiplayer maps
- new equipment, map, and vehicle for the Outbreak mode
- 4 new weapons
- 3 new operators
- new perk, field upgrade, and scorestreak
An overview of the patch notes for Warzone in Season 5 can be found here. We include the Season roadmap here:

New game modes – Demolition and Double Agent
Old classic Demolition: An old fan favorite is making a return, long desired by fans. In Demolition, one team must plant a bomb at a designated point. The other team’s task is to prevent exactly that. However, Demolition will only be available later in Season 5 – no exact date has been given.
What is Double Agent? In this game mode, everything revolves around hidden operations and stealthy approaches. A lobby consists of a maximum of 10 players. You will be assigned one of 3 roles, which determines your task:
- Double Agent: These players must secretly kill all other adversaries or plant a bomb. The catch: No one knows who the double agent is – anyone could be it.
- Operatives: They must figure out who the agents are together. At the start, this is the largest group.
- Investigator: One player becomes a detective who should assist their teammates in the search. They can read clues that are hidden from others.
At the beginning of each round, all players start with a pistol. Weapons and equipment are scattered throughout the map. You can pick them up, but you are not bound to them; simply swap them out. To the weapons that everyone can collect come class-specific abilities. You earn these with skill points that you receive for various actions throughout a round.
Weapons and abilities alone are not enough to find the mischievous double agents. The developers emphasize that voice chat is particularly important. Players need to communicate extensively in the Double Agent mode to stand a chance against the double agents.
We include the trailer for the mode here:
5 fresh maps for multiplayer
These maps are new: Season 5 of Black Ops: Cold War brings a total of 5 new multiplayer maps. There are also 2 remakes: Slums from Black Ops II and Drive-In from Black Ops I. On the Season 5 maps, you play 6vs6, only the Showroom map makes an exception with 3 against 3 or 2 against 2.
- Echelon: is a modern radio station near Berlin
- Slums: features colorful houses, open fountain areas – this is Slums as you know it
- Drive-In: is an abandoned drive-in theater that nature is slowly reclaiming
- Zoo: gives away the setting in its name, here you fight in an old zoo.
- Showroom: is a shopping arcade where you fight in 2v2 or 3v3.
In addition to the new content, there have also been some balance adjustments with weapons, especially with assault rifles. If you want to see the changes in detail, check out the English patch notes on treyarch.com.
What zombie fans can look forward to in Season 5
This is new in the zombie mode: To gain the upper hand in the fight against the walking dead, you can make use of new gadgets in Season 5 of Cold War. This includes a new perk, a field upgrade, and a new weapon.
- Perk: Death Perception allows you to see enemies through walls and improves your radar.
- Field Upgrade: Tesla Storm creates a debilitating storm that also includes your teammates.
- New weapon: The flamethrower is the perfect companion to push several zombies back to hell.
In comparison to what Season 5 introduces in Outbreak, the flamethrower appears to be a toy: Here you will soon be able to control a tank. Although they are very slow, firepower and armor quickly compensate for this disadvantage with good handling. In addition to the tank, you will also gain access to the “Grappling Gun.” This is a grappling hook that allows you to cover larger distances quickly. You can easily craft it at the crafting table.
You can try out the new toys right away on the new Outbreak map Collateral. There is great hope that it will not be as buggy as Mauer der Toten did last time.
What’s in the new Battle Pass & Season 5
This is included in the new Pass: Black Ops: Cold War starts on Friday and brings 100 new levels in the latest Battle Pass right away. If you buy it now, you will immediately receive the operator Kitsune, the daughter of the former Yakuza boss. In the next 100 levels, you will unlock many other cosmetics, 2 new weapons or war tracks from Call of Duty: World at War. We include the trailer for the Battle Pass here:
This is yet to come in Season 5: Right at the start of the season, there’s another weapon – the walking stick. Additionally, as always, the season progress resets and you can earn new prestige emblems.
Treyarch promises more content later in Season 5. Among other things, you can look forward to another weapon and a live event for the mid-season. However, there are currently no exact dates for the introduction of these.
However, information about CoD 2021 is slowly becoming clearer: First images of CoD 2021 leaked – probably called “Vanguard” and set in World War II
