Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is releasing its first new map after launch tonight (November 24) and brings it as a 24/7 playlist – Nuketown. To celebrate the cult map, there is also double XP. MeinMMO shows you the details of both and the patch notes of a small update from November 23.
What’s happening today in CoD? In Black Ops Cold War, the first new map after the release is launching today – Nuketown ’84. The map is one of the smallest in CoD history and represents a lot of action and ongoing enemy contact.
To celebrate the newly released map, the developers at Treyarch are also releasing a cool trailer and a double XP event. Here you can find all the information about it and the patch notes for the small update from yesterday (November 23). Here’s the short trailer for the new map:
Nuketown comes today as a 24/7 spectacle with double XP
When does all this start? The new map and the double XP event will kick off at 7 PM our time. Cold War appears to be following a similar schedule as its predecessor Modern Warfare. Again, Tuesday at 7 PM was a popular time for playlist changes or the introduction of new content.
What is Nuketown? The map was part of Black Ops 1, the CoD from 2010, and also appeared in Black Ops 4, which was released in 2018. Nuketown is relatively small and can be well compared to a classic from CoD MW – Shipment.
However, the area is about twice as large, yet still offers a lot of action and little time to catch your breath. The environment resembles a replica of an American small town that is part of a nuclear bomb test facility to illustrate the devastating effects of a nuclear explosion on a small town.
While the version from BO4 or CoD Mobile looked clean and almost polished, you’ll receive a damaged and broken environment with Nuketown ’84:
Will Nuketown stay 24/7? The developers also announced that Nuketown will come as a 24/7 playlist. However, it is currently unclear how Treyarch will handle this this year.
It is possible that the mode will go into the “Featured” playlist category and disappear with the next playlist update. Last year it was a problem for many players that “Shipment 24/7” was not always available. However, there are no statements from the developers about how long the chaos map will be available as a 24/7 mode.
Double Rank and Weapon XP runs until November 30
Details about the double XP event? As a cherry on top of the new map, CoD offers double experience points. It is already the second double XP phase, but this time it lasts not just 48 hours.
From tonight (November 24) at 7 PM you can earn double XP for your rank and your weapons until Monday (November 30). The developers did not specify a specific time for the end, but 7 PM is likely again.
Make sure to log in this week, even if you don’t feel like grinding XP. Cold War is celebrating Nuketown not only with a double XP event, but also gives you a weapon bundle if you log in before December 3.
Small update on November 23
What else is there to know? On Monday, November 23, a small update went online, which you didn’t have to download anything for. The developers are continuing to adjust small bugs and broken mechanics that have slipped into the game:
- In the mode “Hardpoint,” you now spawn closer to the active hardpoint
- In the maps “Crossroads Strike” and “Armada Strike,” the spawns are now more influenced by enemy troops
- The perk “Flak Jacket” now works better in Hardcore modes
- There are also improvements in Zombie mode
If you want to take a closer look at the details of the small patch, check out the English patch notes on a Treyarch website.
Black Ops Cold War launched with relatively little content and wants to pace itself like Modern Warfare through a long-term service model. Nuketown represents the first step in this direction that the CoD creators want to continue with Season 1. Find out here what to expect with the season launch on December 10.
