The beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will start soon. We explain how and when you can download it on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, as well as what else you should pay attention to if you want to try the new CoD 2020 before its release.
Update October 7, 12:45: The download for the beta now seems to be working finally. Both myself and some friends I just asked can finally load the beta.

Keep in mind: You need to have digitally pre-ordered the game to be able to download the beta.
Update October 7, 10:50 AM: The trick from the Swedish PS Store unfortunately does not work in the German one. So for now, we still have to wait.
Update October 7, 10:00 AM: Even though the preload is officially said to have started according to Activision: Reports indicate that it is still not possible to download the beta as a pre-order customer in the German PS Store. However, the PS4 preload is already live in the UK and US stores. It seems to be a Germany-exclusive problem.
What you can currently try: The beta apparently is not displayed in the Swedish PS Store either – at least not directly. However, it seems to be findable by searching under “Add-Ons” for the game in the PS Store.

What is the Black Ops Cold War beta about? Anyone who wants to try the traditional multiplayer part of the new Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War before the official release of the game on November 13 will soon have the chance to do so.
After PS4 players had their first chance in the alpha, players and interested parties on all platforms now get a chance – in the upcoming open beta.

When exactly does the Cold War beta start? The open beta for Black Ops Cold War will start this week. Players who have pre-ordered will receive early access.
Week 1:
- October 8 – 9
- Early access for pre-order customers on PS4
- October 10 – 12
- For all interested parties on PS4
Week 2:
- October 15 – 16
- For all PS4 players as well as early access for pre-order customers on PC and Xbox One
- October 17 – 19
- Open for all players on all platforms
CoD Black Ops Cold War Beta Preload – All Info
CoD Cold War Beta – Preload on PS4: If you have pre-ordered a digital version of Black Ops Cold War, you can now download the beta in the PS Store.
Search in your console’s PS Store for “Black Ops Cold War Beta” or simply follow this link here:
Meanwhile, you can also find announcements about the Black Ops Cold War beta through the in-game displays in Warzone and CoD: Modern Warfare.
Keep in mind: You need to have digitally pre-ordered the game to be able to download the beta. The download is 31.1 GB in size.
CoD Cold War Beta – Preload on PC and Xbox One: Here, the beta starts a week later. Accordingly, the preload for digital pre-orders will also be unlocked later. On Xbox One and PC, this will be active on October 13 at 5:00 PM German time. Can your PC even run the shooter? Here you can find the system requirements for Cold War.
On Xbox, you will need to search the store for the beta. On PC, you will find the beta under the “Partner Games” section in the Blizzard Launcher.
Also important:
- Early access is only available for digital pre-order customers. If you have pre-ordered a physical version, you will not be able to start the beta early.
- If you receive your beta access through Activision, Xfinity, or another promo campaign, the download code for the beta will be emailed to you.
- Digital pre-order customers do not need a code and must search for the beta in the corresponding store or launcher.
- To participate in the beta on consoles, a PS Plus membership is required for PS4 (even though Sony says otherwise), and Xbox Live is required for Xbox One.
- The beta will be active during both weekends; you will not need to download it again on PS4. So do not delete the beta client after the first weekend! However, if you still have the alpha on your hard drive, you can remove it.
- For everyone who did not pre-order Black Ops Cold War, it will only be possible to download the beta starting on the 10th (PS4) or October 17 (Xbox One, PC).
