The shooter professional Michael “shroud” Grzesiek has taken a look at the new Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. According to his initial assessment, the upcoming CoD looks significantly simpler again. But that’s a good thing because it means more fun and action.
This is what shroud says: In one of his recent streams, shroud talked about the recently held Alpha of Cold War on PS4. While he couldn’t play himself, he watched some gameplay and commented on it.
He is extremely satisfied with what he has seen:
Cold War looks good. Simple. Definitely better than Modern Warfare, in my opinion. Just because there is less nonsense and more “arcadey” fun. The colors are stylish and vibrant, no one disappears [into the environment], no dark corners from what I’ve seen.
He emphasizes that he particularly liked the gunplay of the sniper rifles, the reloading, and the sliding: “Holy shit, you can slide! He slid sideways, that’s cool. He slides in one direction and looks in another.”
MeinMMO author and shooter expert Maik Schneider agrees. He finds that the Alpha rather reminds of PS3 times with more action and less fluff. He liked what he saw.
Players have similar views but different opinions
This is what the players say: After the first Alpha of Cold War, the mood was mixed, the players’ opinions were quite divided. Many saw it similarly to shroud, that Cold War is simpler than Modern Warfare.
However, for them, this was rather a step backwards. The gameplay is super, but the graphics and sounds are not as appealing. Especially the “skill-based matchmaking” bothers many of the players.
