In Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, all interested parties have the opportunity to test the in-house Battle Royale mode Blackout for a whole month for free – including the new map Alcatraz.
What is the deal with the free play? In the presentation trailer for the new Blackout map Alcatraz, Treyarch recently announced a free month in the Battle Royale of Black Ops 4.
Now all interested players have the opportunity to freely test the Blackout mode in April without having to purchase the paid base game – the new Blackout map Alcatraz can also be tried out.
When does it start? The free testing phase began on April 2nd at 7:00 PM. Treyarch tweeted that Blackout can now be played for free on all platforms.
This special offer runs until April 30th. This makes it the longest trial phase for Black Ops 4 so far. In January, Blackout could be tested for free for a week.
On which platforms can you try Blackout? Interested players can test the Battle Royale mode on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Are there any restrictions? During the testing phase, players should be able to experience everything that the Blackout mode has to offer. The developers from Treyarch explained this in a tweet. So there will be no restrictions.
However, a valid Xbox Live membership on Xbox One or an active PS Plus subscription on PS4 is required to play.
PC and Xbox players will not gain access to the new Blackout map Alcatraz until April 9th. PS4 players can already explore the new map on April 2nd.
How can you download the free version? Treyarch tweeted that the testing phase has already started on all platforms. The download of the free trial version is already available on the PS4.
To do this, go to the PlayStation Store and search for Black Ops 4. There you will find, among other things, “Call of Duty®: Black Ops 4 – Blackout Free”. You need to download this version. Alternatively, we have linked the PS Store link for you: Call of Duty®: Black Ops 4 – Free Trial
On PC and Xbox One, the download does not seem to be active yet, but should appear within the next hour (as of 7:45 PM). It seems to be a regional delay. So regularly check the Microsoft Store and the Blizzard App, the download should also go live there soon.
Who would benefit from the free trial phase of Black Ops 4 Blackout? Even though Blackout is essentially a standalone battle royale mode – it can only be played in conjunction with the paid base game Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
So if you simply want to dip your toes into Blackout and get a personal impression before a potential purchase, you usually have to pay. However, with the free trial month of April, all interested parties now have the opportunity to thoroughly test the mode.
The free month is just right for you if
- you have always wanted to check out the battle royale in Call of Duty without spending money
- you want to try out the new Blackout map Alcatraz
- you still have friends you want to convince of Blackout
- you want to see how Blackout has changed since the last free trial. Because a lot has happened in this mode
What is the Blackout mode all about? Blackout is the in-house battle royale mode of Black Ops 4. In typical battle royale fashion, up to 100 players compete in solo or team modes on two different maps.
In an ever-shrinking play area, the goal is to survive. Whoever stands last or whose team remains wins. Players have access to numerous weapons and equipment from the “Call of Duty” series. Different vehicles are also used.
