At the E3 presentation by Square Enix, a new gameplay trailer for Babylon’s Fall was shown. There were also some surprises. The new game from PlatinumGames will be a co-op game and is starting soon with a closed beta. MeinMMO tells you what you need to know about it.
What is Babylon’s Fall? It is a multiplayer action RPG developed by PlatinumGames. The team is known for action games like Bayonetta and NieR:Automata. Players take on the role of a “Sentinel” and must traverse dangerous dungeons and fight enemies together with other players.
The first trailer from 2019 received a lot of positive feedback, and thus many players eagerly awaited new information. Initially, many assumed it would be a single-player game. But now there is some new information.
What we know now: As announced at the E3 2021, Babylon’s Fall will be a co-op game and will feature a live service model. A closed beta for the game has now also been announced. However, this news has led to great disappointment among many players.

What live service features have been confirmed so far? There will be microtransactions, time-limited seasonal events, and a battle pass. Some battle pass items will help with progress, while others will be purely cosmetic.

What is being criticized? Under the trailer on the Square Enix channel, most players are expressing their dissatisfaction with the news. Since its release on June 13, the video has received over 3500 dislikes, compared to around 650 likes. At that time (June 14, 16:00), the video had over 105,000 views.
The main points of criticism include:
- The game looks completely different than in the 2019 trailer
- Many expected a single-player game
- The live service model raises dark premonitions for many players
- Many believe that the graphics of the game are worse than in 2019
- Gameplay is also seen by many commentators as slower and less action-packed

What is included in the closed beta? The test is primarily meant to put the game’s technology to the test, specifically emphasizing stress tests with a large number of players.
On which platforms will the test take place and when will it start? The test will take place on Steam, PS4, and PS5. Your progress will not carry over to the main game upon release. There is also no release date yet for the closed beta, but sign-ups are open until the end of June.
The first test phase is scheduled to start at the end of July on Steam. The second phase will run on PS4 and Steam, and the third on PS5, PS4, and Steam. However, no test period has yet been set for the second and third phases.
When is Babylon’s Fall due to be released? There is still no concrete release date.
