Not only fans of the classic Ragnarok Online are interested in the MMORPG Tree of Savior and want to know how the online game plays. 5,000 chosen ones now have the chance to find out.
Tree of Savior is considered the unofficial successor to Ragnarok Online. This is because the team consists of former developers of the classic, with Ragnarok Online creator Hakkyu Kim at the helm, and the gameplay specifically appeals to fans of Ragnarok Online. Additionally, it visually appears as a natural evolution. However, since Tree of Savior has only been in a Korean beta so far, many Western players are wondering how the MMORPG plays and how much Ragnarok Online is really in it.
Closed Beta for a few players
The English closed beta has now started via Steam. 5,000 players will have the opportunity to test the MMO and experience how it plays. Since the beta is already running, there are also some opinions about it. Tree of Savior is said to actually “feel” and play like Ragnarok Online. Starting classes are available: Swordsman, Archer, Wizard, and Cleric. These can be further developed through six ranks and 11 advanced classes.
However, players must decide during the game how they want to develop their character, as not every class is available in every development branch. Therefore, those who need more character slots to try out new classes can expand their hut with real money, gaining more space for new heroes.
Ragnarok Online in new
With your hero, you set out to explore the world and fight monsters, just as one knows from Ragnarok Online. While the Korean version can only be played with a keyboard, the English version has implemented optional mouse controls. There are many boss opponents in the world that should only be attacked in groups, and throughout the story, players also participate in instance battles, although instances are supposed to remain the exception. Additionally, some classes can summon boss opponents as companions, which is why players need to collect so-called boss cards.
PvP is also possible, but not in the open game world. You can enhance your equipment using an anvil, and it is also possible to embed gems that provide bonuses. Your enhanced weapons and armors can be sold through an auction house. However, it is generally said to be very difficult to earn money in the game.

The developers are currently testing Tree of Savior in the English version via Steam, but apparently there are no plans to release the game internationally. Therefore, they are currently looking for publishers. For this reason, it is still uncertain when the MMORPG will be released in the West.
