Bad news for all fans of WoW Classic. A former developer believes that Classic will not be released for at least three years. He expects the Classic servers only after 2021.
Many players can hardly relate to the current version of World of Warcraft and are therefore looking forward to another game. World of Warcraft: Classic.
This legacy edition of WoW is meant to be revived one day and allow players to experience the “Vanilla” feeling on official servers from Blizzard. However, these hopes are now facing a massive blow. WoW: Classic might not be released until “after 2021”.
Who said that? John Staats is a former developer from Blizzard and is currently working on his diary about WoW, in which he records his experiences as a 3D level designer, providing insights into classic WoW. He recently held an “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit together with other developers, answering many questions from the community.
What did Staats say exactly? Staats was asked on Reddit when he thinks WoW: Classic will be released. His answer is likely to be disappointing for many fans:
“When Classic is released … I estimate sometime after 2021. MMOs are a big challenge, they require a lot of time and many tests.”
So anyone who expected the Classic servers to be released this year might need to temper their expectations a bit.
It is also important to mention that Staats probably no longer has insights into the current structures of Blizzard. Therefore, his statements should be taken with caution.
