The release of Battlefield 2042 was marred by crises and it has now been almost a year. The developers have now presented plans for the future and announced testing opportunities.
Battlefield 2042 was released on November 19, 2021, but it had a rough start: It was met with criticism – for errors, bugs, and new features that didn’t work. This launch is now nearly a year old.
The developers have now reached out with a development update: Season 2, which received cautiously positive feedback, is coming to an end and Season 3 is set to bring further changes.
The exact start date is still unknown, but Season 3 is expected to be fully presented in November. It is already clear that Battlefield 2042 wants to try once again to attract players for the occasion.
So Battlefield 2042 will come to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate with the start of Season 3 and will also be available for EA Play members. Players with the appropriate memberships will be able to jump into the game.
Additionally, there will be free periods for Battlefield 2042 for all players who want to check it out:
- On Xbox consoles from December 1 to December 4, 2022
- On Steam from December 1 to December 5
- And on PlayStation from December 16 to December 23
Furthermore, the developers have already hinted at the upcoming content.
What will Battlefield 2042 bring in the upcoming season?
What’s coming: As early as summer 2022, the developers announced that the game would return to the old, more popular class system. This will be implemented in Season 3.
The specialists will be categorized into the classes “Assault”, “Support”, “Engineer”, and “Recon”. Each class will receive class-specific equipment and gadgets, as well as certain weapon proficiencies. This way, each class will have its gameplay advantages. Recons, for example, will be able to steady their aim better with sniper rifles than other classes.

Furthermore, Season 3 will bring more vault weapons back, such as the XM8 from Bad Company 2 and the A91 from Battlefield 3. More will come during Season 3 and Season 4 – as it has also been announced that more content for Battlefield 2042 is in the works, with pre-production for 2023 already started.
Work is also being done on the maps. Enhanced versions of the launch maps Kaleidoscope, Renewal, and Orbital are expected, as well as reworks of “Manifest” and “Breakaway”.
For example, in Manifest, flags are expected to be brought closer together to allow quicker access to battle. Moreover, there will be better cover, and lighting and visibility will also be improved. Breakaway has been extensively adjusted and some POIs on the map have changed.
In Season 3, Battlefield 2042 will also introduce a new specialist, a new battle pass, and a smaller, tight map for infantry, featuring a new location.
More detailed information about Season 3 is expected to arrive in November.
