Are romances possible in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33? Yes, you can experience romantic moments with two companions. However, it’s also worthwhile to improve your relationships with your companions outside of romance, as this unlocks useful rewards.

To avoid spoiling any story details, you’ll find the conditions for possible romances at the end of the article. Before that, we will explain how relationships generally work, the levels involved, and what rewards you can earn.

Leveling Relationships in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

When you switch from the game world to the camp, you have the opportunity to exchange a few words with your companions. You should do this regularly from Act 2 onwards to improve your relationships with your companions through conversations and time spent together.

Specifically, after certain story progressions, you will have the option to spend some time with your companion during conversations. This activates short sequences and dialogues where you learn more about each character.

After completing such a sequence, the corresponding relationship level increases; there are 7 levels in total for each of the 5 companions. For the last 3 level-ups, you need to complete linked quests that take you to different zones in the game world.

Once you bring your relationship with a character to levels 3, 5, 6, and 7, you unlock the corresponding reward. For the last level, there is also a related achievement. However, for levels 1, 2, and 4, you will not be rewarded. Here’s the overview:

All Romances in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

With 2 of the 5 companions, you can experience particularly special romantic moments. Important: The romances do not impact the flow of the story or the ending of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. There are also no downsides to ignoring the romances, aside from missing the associated dialogues and situations.

Romance with Sciel: When you’re about to bring the relationship with Sciel from level 3 to 4, she will ask you if you are interested in an adventure. No matter how you react, it will rise to level 4. However, to start the romance, you must agree to the proposal. The same goes for a later dialogue at level 5, which revolves around celebrating your time together again, thereby deepening your relationship.
Romance with Lune: To start this romance, you must decline the adventure with Sciel at level 3 because you are tired. This way, you will regularly get the option to express your affection for Lune in conversation options, leading to a romantic finale at level 7.

You can also experience a particularly intimate moment with your Gestral companion Monoco if you select the corresponding dialogue option at the camp after completing his companion quest. Since this is not a romance in the true sense, you can also experience this moment if you flirt with Sciel or Lune.
