The new protagonist of the next Witcher game, Witcher 4, brings some significant differences compared to her old predecessor, the Witcher.
When it comes to eagerly awaited role-playing games, Witcher IV is likely at the top of many people’s lists. Although there have been some controversial discussions about whether Ciri is suitable as the new protagonist, most are looking forward to the next Witcher adventure.
However, Ciri will be more than just a new model for the Witcher – she is said to play completely differently, as revealed in a podcast on YouTube by CD Projekt RED.
How does Ciri differ from Geralt? Ciri and Geralt are quite different – not only in their worldview but also in terms of their age and physical form. While Geralt is a rather massive block that one might want to avoid, Ciri is agile and nimble. She therefore does not rely solely on pure physical strength.
Especially the scene in the fight against the Bauk makes this clear, where Ciri uses the chain and also performs a spin. That would not suit Geralt at all, as Pawel Burza from CD Projekt RED explains:
You don’t see Geralt doing these things. He is quick, but … he is more like a block. [Ciri] is almost fluid in comparison.
Ciri fights fluidly, almost in a dance-like manner
By “fluid”, it refers to the fact that Ciri can quickly dance around her opponents, find their weaknesses, and generally move faster – whether to dodge or to attack.
This alone should ensure that the gameplay of Witcher 4 differs significantly from the combat system of the first Witcher titles. After all, Ciri is not a burly man but a – in direct comparison to Geralt – more delicate woman.
Yet, she should definitely not be underestimated because of this, as not only the story of Witcher 3 showed, where players could already play as Ciri, but also the spectacular cinematic for Witcher 4.
Ciri is currently being celebrated by fans, as her look is received exceptionally well. This is quite curious, as the developers insist that they haven’t changed anything about Ciri.
