With a new trailer, the developers have finally revealed details about the first beta test of Chrono Odyssey. MeinMMO summarizes everything known about the playtest of the largest new MMORPG in 2025.
When does the beta start and what can I play? The closed beta of Chrono Odyssey, which MeinMMO reported on as early as May, starts in “June 2025”; unfortunately, there is no exact date. What is clear is that the test will include the first part of the main story as well as three playable classes: Swordsman, Ranger, and Berserker.
How to participate: Anyone who wants to take an early look at what is likely to be the largest MMORPG release of the year as part of the beta must have a Steam account. Visit the product page for Chrono Odyssey on Steam and select “Request access” under “Participate in the Chrono Odyssey playtest”.
It is unclear how many players will be invited to the closed beta. So far, the developers have only conducted targeted focus tests with small groups. Below, you can watch the announcement trailer for the closed beta:
Chrono Odyssey at the Summer Game Fest
What else is known? An official tweet from the developers on X suggests that Chrono Odyssey will be shown at the opening event of the Summer Game Fest by Geoff Keighley. The post states: “Time waits for no one… but we are counting every second until @summergamefest! Let’s go, @geoffkeighley!”
What do I need to know about Chrono Odyssey? Chrono Odyssey was introduced back in late 2020. About 120 developers are working on the game. The action MMORPG immerses you in the world of Setera, which is not only supposed to be large, seamless, diverse, and open, but also in constant change – for example, through seasons and weather events.
This change will also be triggered by time travel, as you can switch between the past, present, and future. The transition is intended to be seamless within the game world – similar to the journey between the two worlds in Lords of the Fallen from 2023.
In Chrono Odyssey, you can choose between six combat classes: Paladin, Swordsman, Berserker, Assassin, Ranger, and Mage. Each class is supposed to have several weapon types available that you can freely switch between in combat. In battle, regardless of your class choice, you can manipulate space and time with the so-called Chronoprotector.
The developers promise dungeon and raid challenges. There will also be PvP content and gathering – as well as crafting activities. You can take on tasks such as harvesting, woodcutting, mining, and skinning. The resources can be processed into equipment and consumables.
In addition to Chrono Odyssey, several other MMORPGs are set to be released this year. Other exciting online role-playing games will not go live until at least 2026 or later.
