Chronicles of Elyria: Kickstarter campaign for unusual MMORPG has begun

The promising MMORPG Chronicles of Elyria is seeking financial support, which is why the Kickstarter campaign has now been launched.

The developers are looking to raise 900,000 USD to at least realize the basic game. Additionally, there are other funding sources. The founder of Soulbound Studios sold an inherited property, where he wanted to build his dream house, and invested the money into the game’s development.

The Kickstarter campaign is going well

The Kickstarter campaign started on May 3, and already today, on May 5, over 400,000 dollars have been raised. So it actually looks quite good, as the campaign runs until June 3. However, the cash flow usually drops significantly after the first few days and only picks up again towards the end of the campaign. Therefore, reaching the funding goal is not yet certain.

If you are interested in the MMO, you have the opportunity to financially support the developers. There are various amounts you can give. Depending on the amount, you will get access to the game once it starts, including a “Spark of Life,” which represents a life in the game, or you will receive an exclusive pet or access to the beta.

Sandbox, dynamic story, and skill

Chronicles of Elyria wants to mix a sandbox with story, where the quests are not predefined by the developers as in other MMORPGs, where basically everyone does the same quests, levels up to the same maximum level, and nothing is special because everyone has done the same thing. Quests are dynamically generated and arise from situations or are assigned by other players when you need to complete something for them.

The skill and combat system focus on the skills and agility of the hero. The character will age and eventually die inevitably. Those who take more risks may die earlier. Then you buy a Spark of Life with real money to create a new character who inherits some abilities from the old one and becomes his successor.

Sparks of Life can also be purchased with story points, which you earn during adventures. PvP is generally possible everywhere, but it is illegal in cities and those who are caught will go to prison, wasting valuable life time.

Chronicles of Elyria is an ambitious game being developed by a small independent studio that cannot rely on the financial support of a large publisher. Therefore, it is dependent on the Kickstarter campaign.
