The year 2021 saw a whole lot of completely new MMORPGs and some hefty expansions. Just before the end, we want to know from you: Which one was your personal highlight?
These are the MMORPGs and expansions: After a prolonged drought, a whole slew of new MMORPGs suddenly appeared in 2021. Especially spring and early summer were packed with beta tests, announcements, and releases.
But also at the end of the year, several new MMORPGs and expansions were released. Almost every player could find something for themselves, as the games came in all colors, shapes, and flavors:
- Fans of Asian games could try Bless Unleashed, PSO2: New Genesis, or Elyon
- Wuxia setting with cool fights and nice graphics was offered by Swords of Legends Online
- For players who prefer Western MMORPGs, there were New World, Crowfall, and Wild Terra 2
- Nostalgia was provided by WoW Burning Crusade Classic
- Existing MMORPGs received new expansions like FFXIV: Endwalker and ESO: Blackwood
Before Burning Crusade, start “fresh” again? Thousands of players want to try that again.
There was really no shortage of MMORPG food in 2021. But was it any good? As has become “tradition” in MMOs, there were difficult launches plagued by server issues, and some fans or interested players closed the launcher angrily in the end.
