Are you into massive medieval battles where you can fight your enemies with swords, axes, and if necessary, pitchforks? Chivalry 2 might be just the right thing for you – in the open beta, players can test it before release.
What is Chivalry 2? In Chivalry 2, you engage in large battles set in the medieval period – all from a first-person perspective. You are right in the middle of it when armies clash on the open field, besiege fortresses, or attack villages. It was originally showcased at E3 2019.
As it was not exactly gentle in the medieval times, you will quickly find yourself in direct, brutal duels on the battlefield, where you strike at each other until death. Up to 64 players can participate in a battle at the same time – that’s 32 warriors on each side. The developers recently demonstrated how the gameplay looks in a Dev Diary:
In addition to the individual battles, you can also see how armies are rallied by their leader before the battle and what customization options you have for your warriors. This includes everything from their faces to armor and weapons.
However, in contrast to the brutal fights, there are also entertaining quips that players can utter during the battle. For example, there is a squire who feels completely out of place on the battlefield – and he lets everyone hear it with loud complaints.
How you can test Chivalry 2 for free in the beta
When does the open beta start? Even before the release of Chivalry 2, players can let loose in the open beta, starting on May 27 and ending on June 1. It will be free for players on PC (via Epic Games Store), PS4, PS5, as well as Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S.
The open beta is set to feature cross-play, so you can also play with friends on other systems. Objective-driven battles and sieges, just like direct deathmatches, will be available in the beta. Additionally, a free-for-all mode will be offered.
Important: The developers explain that PlayStation users can play the open beta without a PS Plus subscription. On Xbox, however, a membership for Xbox Live Gold is required to use the online services. Update: It has since been announced that PlayStation players do need to rely on a PS Plus membership (via Chivalry 2).
When is the release of Chivalry 2? The full release of the game is not too far off. Chivalry 2 will be released worldwide on June 8, 2021. The open beta, which ends on June 1, is set to be the final test.
Chivalry 2 is, as the name suggests, a sequel to the game “Chivalry: Medieval Warfare.” And that already inspired another game set in the medieval era.
