While many large companies are presenting their innovations for the coming years at the E3 2019, Sony stayed away from the event. Xbox boss Phil Spencer wished that the competition would have been present at the fair. In his opinion, Sony’s absence harms the profile of the event.
Who is it about? In an interview at the currently ongoing E3 2019, Xbox boss Phil Spencer talked about the fair. Competition from Sony and publisher Activision stayed away from the E3 this year.
When Spencer spoke about the relevance of the event, he stated that the absence of Sony and Activision harms the profile of the E3. “I wish Sony was here,” Spencer said in the interview. “The E3 would be better if Sony were also here.”
Nevertheless, the fair would be important for the gaming world. It would be a time when the whole world watches gaming. This would be important because the industry is currently being criticized. As an example, Phil Spencer mentioned the recent classification of “Gaming Disorder”, recognized by the World Health Organization as a mental health disorder.
Why was Sony not present? Already in November of last year, Sony announced that it would not participate in E3 2019. Instead, the company wanted to explore new and familiar ways to collaborate with its community.
Before that, the PlayStation Experience had already been canceled. This was an annual event held until 2018 to showcase PlayStation games.
What did Microsoft present? Last Sunday at 10:00 PM German time, Microsoft held its press conference for E3 2019. The presentation included the unveiling of the next-generation Xbox, currently being developed under the name Project Scarlett. The new console is set to be released at Christmas 2020.
There were plenty of games and an appearance by Keanu Reeves to see. You can read the highlights of Microsoft’s press conference here:
