It seems that we might not be able to look forward to multiple Cyberpunk games after all. Only Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release. However, the multiplayer mode is apparently not denied.
Just yesterday, we reported that Cyberpunk 2077 is not only working on a multiplayer but also on another game in the Cyberpunk universe. We referred to the Polish site Bankier.pl, which reported this.
However, CD Projekt Red now contradicts the idea of “multiple games in the Cyberpunk universe,” as the English-speaking site PC Gamer reports. They received a message from CD Projekt Red.
This is the reality: There will only be “Cyberpunk 2077” and no further expansions are (currently) planned.
What is CD Projekt RED working on then? Currently, they seem to have several projects in the works, some of which are managed and further developed by existing teams. So currently in development is:
- The card game GWENT, which is being further improved
- Cyberpunk 2077, which is set to release next year
- A team of 40 people is working on “research and development” for Cyberpunk 2077 (here, Bankier.pl referred to the multiplayer mode)
- Another team is working on a yet-to-be-announced mobile project
There are no further games in the Cyberpunk universe mentioned.
But maybe some Cyberpunk music will sweeten this news for you?
How did the mistake occur? It’s hard to say. PC Gamer speaks of a “translation error” by Google Translate.
However, Polish native speakers say: The original article on Bankier.Pl actually states that 40 people are working on the multiplayer mode for Cyberpunk 2077. It says so in the text, although CD Projekt Red does not specifically mention the multiplayer mode in their statement.
There have been contradictory statements in the past regarding the multiplayer mode in Cyberpunk 2077.
