When everything seems to go downhill in Destiny 2, the universe is on the brink of collapse, and the prospect of salvation seems out of reach, the only thing left is a gunslinger with the biggest ego the loot shooter has ever seen. And that’s exactly what Bungie announced at the PlayStation Show for the final DLC of the “Light and Darkness” saga. Cayde-6 ♠ is back!
What huge spoiler did Bungie show? Many players and Guardians followed the PlayStation Showcase by Sony on May 24, 2023, as they already suspected that details about Bungie’s future plans would be revealed there. And that’s exactly what happened.
- Bungie teased at the show “Marathon”, a sci-fi PvP extraction shooter, bringing back its original concept from 1994. The new game is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
- Soon after, a familiar face appeared in another teaser trailer, as Bungie gave Destiny 2 players an exciting preview of the final DLC of the Light and Darkness saga in 2024.
“We end at the beginning”
Cayde-6, the lovable yet most arrogant Exo-Guardian, returns to save the universe, and he would likely say with a smirk: “Someone has to do it!”
Cayde who? If you don’t know or have forgotten the brash hero: He was not only the contact for the Hunter Vanguard, noodle soup destroyer, and a gunslinger, but also recently a tragic hero in Destiny 2. Oh, and actually, he is dead. Killed by the hand of Uldren Sov, whom you now know as Crow in the game.
Back then, players in 2018 had to watch in the Forsaken DLC as Cayde-6 succumbed to a tragic fate and died by the shot of his own weapon. Many thought this was the end for the beloved character, but Bungie apparently has other plans.
With his cheeky, sarcastic nature and outstanding shooting skills with his hand cannon “Pikass”, he has earned a special place in the hearts of some players in Destiny 2.
- For some, he was a fan favorite because he often made them chuckle with his cool attitude in the game.
- Others couldn’t stand him at all and were glad he was gone.
To ensure he is not forgotten, Bungie erected a monument to him in Lightfall on the Tower, reminding players of him.
What can Guardians expect in “The Final Form”? Season 21 is currently underway. The new DLC, which is set to release in 2024 and will conclude the story of Destiny 2, is still a long way off.
Nevertheless, it promises to be an epic finale for the “Light and Darkness” saga. While details are still sparse, the developers have provided some speculative insights into the story.
- Already now, the forces of light and darkness are irreconcilably opposed, and the Guardians must pass their ultimate test to determine the fate of the universe.
- The Vanguard continues in Season 21 to follow the Witness and thereby the darkness through the mysterious portal that was opened kaleidoscopically in the Traveler. The Titan Joxer was brave and tried to fly through alone, where he, according to lore, experienced strange things before he died brutally.
A first look inside the Traveler? In the trailer, it seems like this has finally been achieved. Ikora is seen in a rather peaceful world. Next to her is her ghost – so she is not dead. But somehow, nothing is there anymore, just a paradisiacal landscape, the large portal that was opened through the veil, and Cayde-6.
So have we seen a first look inside the Traveler? Quite possible! Perhaps it is the place where lightbearers end when their light departs, returning to the Traveler as part of its essence.
Now we are here. Wherever “here” is.

Cayde-6 himself also seems a little changed.
- His weapon, the exotic hand cannon “Pikass” designed by him, has strangely glowing cracks, as if it has been broken and reassembled.
- The Exo’s eyes also shine, as if the light of the Traveler is shining from them. He seems no longer quite the same, more like a memory returning to calm Ikora and save fate.
And there’s one more thing hanging in the air: Will there perhaps even be a meeting with Uldren Sov, aka Crow, his murderer? And will he take revenge on him? Or is he just back to help the Guardians as a mentor and ally?
Bungie brings back the old voice actor: After all, it’s not just Cayde-6 returning. His former voice actor in the English original, Nathan Fillion (known from series like Castle
or Firefly
), will also reprise the role of Cayde for the Destiny universe. And this could also extend beyond the last DLC, when the first saga ends and Bungie lets Destiny 2 rise in a new universe.

When will there be more about the DLC “The Final Form”? On August 22, 2023, Bungie will show a livestream where the Destiny development team will reveal everything you need to know about the new DLC “The Final Form” and provide a preview of the future of Destiny 2. It will be exciting and will bring many Guardians the decision of whether to remain loyal to Destiny or not.
