In Pokémon GO there is currently a free battle ticket in the shop. It unlocks a limited research that promises stardust. However, the ticket becomes increasingly useless the more you play it.
What ticket is it about? In the Pokémon GO shop, there is currently a ticket themed “Battling” available. It is mainly aimed at PvP players and you can pick it up for free. So, it’s not entirely useless, as it gives you bonuses and costs nothing at all.
You will find the ticket among the paid accesses in the shop and can simply pick it up. However, keep in mind that it will take up a space in your inventory for the event duration of 3 months. So if you don’t play PvP at all, it would be better to skip the free ticket.
What does the ticket bring? It starts a research limited to three months called “Battling”. It presents you with new challenges and rewards you with stardust, although it may not necessarily be worth it.
Because while the tasks for each stage of the research double, the rewards unfortunately do not. On the first level, you still get a hefty 1,000 stardust extra for a win, but at level 4, you have to win eight times and only get 4,000 stardust for that.
Why will the ticket soon not be worth it anymore? The requirements for you double with each level, while the gained stardust only increases by one thousand. A reddit user has found out that the rewards eventually become almost ridiculously low.
While you receive 1,000 stardust for the first win, after a total of 4,095 wins, you only get a meager 19 stardust per won match.
After 511 wins, you only receive 88 extra stardust per won match, which is less than you get for catching a Pokémon. You could say that the ticket is not worth it at least from level 9 onwards.
But that’s not all, you actually can’t complete the ticket.
“This research is not meant to be completed”
What problem do the fans have? Most researches in Pokémon GO are actually meant to be completed. With the new battling research you get from the ticket, that is not possible at all.
Since the requirements for the next stage double each time and the limited research is only active for 3 months, you cannot complete stage 12. For that, you would need to win a total of 4,095 times.
Even with a win rate of 100%, that is not possible at all, because in 90 days you can play a maximum of 2,500 PvP matches. You can only reach that number if you play the full 75 matches possible on all 3 event days.
The second to last level of the battle ticket is statistically hardly achievable. It requires that you win at least 2,047 of the 2,500 matches. The 11,000 stardust for this achievement will therefore only be claimed by very few trainers.
Players are in conflict: While some say on reddit that it is absolutely fine that not every achievement is meant to be completed, other users are upset about it. Many also complain about the low bonuses, even though the ticket is free.
- JJ3595 writes: “The stardust rewards are really a joke when compared to the time you would have to invest for them.”
- Also, DRE is not very enthusiastic: “Stardust for free is great, but if you’re relatively good in terms of stardust, the daily time simply isn’t worth it. I wish I could delete the ticket again. I definitely won’t do this again.”
- Others are more relaxed, as MarkusEF writes: “Everything above 1,023 total wins is almost impossible to complete. Since you cannot complete the entire research anyway, I’m not getting worked up about it.”
