Dying Light 2 is full of choices, often with unsatisfactory outcomes. Every choice is tough. However, right at the end of the game, you can block off an area with a wrong decision. MeinMMO explains how to prevent that.
Spoiler Warning: We are discussing one of the last missions of Dying Light 2, “Now or Never” and the choices you can make there.
What kind of area is this? It’s the region south of Newfound Lost Lands, controlled by Renegades: the sunken city. It is flooded and blocked by a dam, so you usually cannot enter it and can only reach it with difficulty.
In this area, you’ll find a bit to explore and a new type of zombie: Drowner. This variant mutated underwater for years and runs at Aiden like a Bomber to then explode itself for high damage.
Especially mean is that the game does not warn you about this. You might not know anything about the area if you don’t randomly read the various outcomes of the decisions beforehand. While this is good for immersion, it’s a shame about the content you miss.
This is how you unlock the area: Difficult decisions are part of Dying Light 2, as in any good RPG. To enter the sunken city, you must consciously choose to punish someone who is innocent in this specific case. All of this takes place in the penultimate mission, “Now or Never”.
Now or Never – Believe the Colonel or Jack Matt?
This is the decision: During “Now or Never”, you have the choice to believe the Colonel or Jack Matt regarding the shot at Frank. This arrow has been poisoned and it seems like the Renegades are responsible.
The poison looks like the one that the Colonel and his people use. However, you find clues that it cannot come from the Renegades, but that the Peacekeepers themselves must have fired the arrow.
If you decide to believe Jack Matt, who planned this lie, you will open the floodgates and can enter the sunken city after a fight at the dam. If you believe the Colonel, which would be the “right” decision, the area remains permanently locked and you would need to dive to loot here.
The dilemma here is that the Colonel is actually right – which you probably already know at this point. However, if you want to see the sunken city (or simply side with the PKs), you must sacrifice an innocent here.
Tips for unlocking and a look into the sunken city are provided by the video from YouTuber Raging Reaper1:
Can I experience both endings? At the moment, the only way to see alternative story developments is to completely restart the story, so a new game. You cannot manually save and try other decisions.
A “New Game+” is also not yet in the game, but developers said it will come. However, we do not yet know when.
Countless new contents are already planned for the next 5 years. Dying Light 2 is set to receive DLCs and updates and will be supported at least until 2027. Even before release, there was a roadmap for the game:
