Improbable, developer of the “Miracle Technology” Spatial OS, announced an online role-playing game together with ex-Bioware developers Aaryn Flynn and Neil Thompson – but this will not be an MMORPG.
What is coming from Improbable? The studio behind the Spatial OS technology wants to develop its own games now. A team has been assembled consisting of Bioware’s Aaryn Flynn and Neil Thompson as well as ex-developers from Capcom and Ubisoft. Of course, this game will utilize Spatial OS. The Unreal engine will be used since Improbable has entered into a partnership with Epic Games.
This title is an online role-playing game, but it is not intended to be an MMORPG.

An Online RPG, but not an MMORPG
What is special about this game? According to Improbable, there will be no pre-made world; rather, they want to orient themselves towards the RPG Neverwinter Nights, where Player-Created-Content is central. Players should shape the world through their own creations.
According to the developers, the story plays a significant role and this presents a problem in many online role-playing games. Players rarely feel that they are truly important to the story.
With Improbable’s online RPG, this is supposed to be different. Through the content that players create themselves, they become important. They shape the world and determine how it evolves.
Who is behind the game? Bioware’s Aaryn Flynn and Neil Thompson are leading the project.
Aaryn Flynn may be known to some. He led Bioware before Casey Hudson, but left the company in 2017 after Mass Effect: Andromeda received much criticism.
Together with about a dozen of his Bioware colleagues, he moved to Improbable, as Kotaku reports. Many had previously spent 10 years at the RPG studio BioWare, according to the insider report from Kotaku.
So there is quite a bit of talent behind the new online RPG, which makes it potentially very interesting.

Spatial OS is “not just” an MMO solution
This is how Spatial OS comes into play: Is Spatial OS not a technology designed to create huge game worlds for thousands of players and make it easier for developers to manage that world?
According to Improbable’s Herman Narula, Spatial OS is much more than that. The company even goes so far as to say that Spatial OS is not a solution for MMOs. Spatial OS is supposed to enable much more in the multiplayer space. And above all, it should give players more options to participate in the creation of worlds.
When will the online game come out? The production is still in a very early phase. According to Aaryn Flynn, the scenario in which the title will take place has now been decided. So it will likely be a while before we see anything of the game.
