What is the status of the MMORPG Kingdom Under Fire 2? After the community manager announced her departure, some concerns arose among the fans. We at MeinMMO spoke with the PR agency of the publisher.
Why was the KuF 2 community somewhat panicked? In August, community manager Aureli announced her departure. Even then, some players feared that this was not a good sign for the future of the strategic MMORPG Kingdom Under Fire 2. The last major community update was from April, and since then, there have only been maintenance work.
As a result, the community wondered about the state of the game.
Gameforge comments on KuF 2
What about the player numbers? Steamcharts shows that player numbers over the past 30 days averaged 24 concurrent users. The peak was 49 players. This seems to support the notion that the MMORPG is currently not doing too well.
However, the possibly most expensive MMORPG in Korea is still playable through the Gameforge launcher, making it difficult to ascertain the actual player count.
What does Gameforge say about the situation? We spoke with the PR agency responsible for Gameforge and, in turn, for Kingdom Under Fire 2. Here are the insights from the conversation:
- The community manager left the team due to personal changes in her life. It has nothing to do with the game. Her responsibilities have been redistributed to other community managers.
- Gameforge continues to operate KuF 2 but acknowledges that the development team is currently experiencing some internal issues, causing the game’s development to progress more slowly than planned. The COVID-19 pandemic has also played a role in this.
- While online games have benefited from the player numbers during the pandemic, according to Gameforge, these were mainly “older” titles like TERA. The newer titles, such as Kingdom Under Fire 2, have not experienced the same growth surge.
- The majority of KuF2 players are expected to be using the Gameforge client, making the Steam numbers unrepresentative.
- Gameforge assures that there are no plans to discontinue Kingdom Under Fire 2. Development will continue, albeit somewhat slower. However, other games in the portfolio currently take priority.
What does this mean? Gameforge remains committed to Kingdom Under Fire 2. Fans do not need to fear that the servers will be shut down anytime soon.
What exactly is Kingdom Under Fire 2? Kingdom Under Fire 2 is an MMO that mixes RPG elements with real-time strategy. You play a character that you can level up, equip, and develop over time. There are five different classes to choose from.
With this character, who can be played in the open world like in an MMORPG, you then command troops in instances, as in a real-time strategy game.
