In 2019, Razer introduced a new high-end gaming mouse with the Razer Basilisk Ultimate. But is the mouse still recommended in 2023? MeinMMO editor has tested the mouse once again in a check.
With the Basilisk series, Razer has launched a whole lineup of popular gaming mice. Razer makes a few updates every few months and released, for example, the Basilisk V3 and a pro version of the Basilisk. With the Naga V2 Pro (for the test), Razer also offers a mouse for MMO players.
The old Basilisk Ultimate was released in 2019 and was at that time the best model from Razer in the Basilisk range. The price was quite hefty back then at 189.99 euros (with mouse dock) and 169.99 euros, but meanwhile, you can regularly get the mouse for around 100 euros. But is it still worth it today?
I took another look at the gaming mouse for a test and will explain how the model still performs today. I tested the model with the mouse dock.
Who tested it?
I currently own over 20 gaming mice and have tested over 15 keyboards. Privately, I also own over 10 sets of in-ear headphones. At MeinMMO, I have been testing hardware for our readers since 2019. Besides the PC and the PS5, I am now also using the Steam Deck.
I bought the Razer Basilisk Ultimate privately in 2019 and have been using it regularly since then.

Contents, design and structure
What does the package contain? Besides the gaming mouse itself, my version also includes
- a charging cable
- the mouse dock
- the dongle for the mouse
- manual and stickers
in the packaging.
How is the mouse structured? You can buy the mouse in black; there are no other colors, and it is not expected that there will be any:
- On the top of the mouse are the main buttons and in between is the four-way scroll wheel. In front of the scroll wheel on the top are two small switches that allow you to switch the DPI.
- On the bottom is the switch to turn it on and off, and you can also adjust the scroll stiffness of the scroll wheel. You can either let the scroll wheel run freely or feel every single notch.
- Inside the mouse, you can store the USB adapter for the wireless connection.
- The mouse uses a built-in battery that you cannot officially replace.
- Overall, you can save up to 5 button profiles in the mouse’s internal memory.
Processing
The casing feels robust and stable. I purchased the Basilisk Ultimate in 2021 and have been using it regularly since then (with breaks due to work). Since then, the Basilisk has not let me down. The battery life has not noticeably decreased, and the mouse feet are worn down but still provide enough grip.
My fingers have also left wear marks, but you can clean the surface of the mouse well. There are definitely much worse products where the plastic fades significantly faster or looks greasy.
Otherwise, Razer has almost entirely relied on plastic for the Basilisk, which is not uncommon for gaming mice.
Software
Razer’s “Synapse” software is used. Overall, the software is quite large, with numerous features and additional bonus content that you can also install. On top of that, Razer has integrated hints for various in-house online services. This is all quite annoying.
Much of this is optional; however, “Synapse” remains confusing in my opinion. Profiles can easily be created and saved through the software, and the software works smoothly.
The battery life can also be displayed through the software, and when the battery level is low, the software sends a push notification.

You no longer need to forcefully register; you can also use the software with a so-called “guest account”, but then you have to do without cloud storage and other services. In my opinion, it is not necessary.
On the next page, you can read everything about weight, ergonomics, and battery life.
