Camelot Unchained starts on July 4th with the first Closed Beta. And according to designer Mark Jacobs, this is also a real, classic beta in the sense of a “Beta Test.” Players should not expect a mere showcase.
Nowadays, the release methods of online games are no longer as easy to see through as they used to be. There are soft launches and early access versions, or developers see their product as a never-ending construction site because they believe an online game is “never finished.”
It is all the more refreshing that City State Entertainment has now stated that the recently announced beta of the MMORPG Camelot Unchained will also be a “real” beta. This starts on July 4th.

No Early Access, but “classic beta”
Anyone who wants to participate in the beta must either purchase the game or have received corresponding access privileges from the Kickstarter campaign.
Mark Jacobs states that this is not an early access phase. Because what is being presented does not yet correspond to such a version, and they do not want to use this term for something for which it is not intended.
The beta is really about a “beta test” of some game mechanics.

This is what the first Closed Beta of Camelot Unchained offers
The beta will give you a first taste of the MMORPG. Possible features include:
- Building construction
- Crafting
- A persistent game world and persistent characters
- Heroes with different class and race bonuses
- The first beta consists of siege battles that take place on multiple events every Saturday
- On islands, you can fight against each other
- There will be large battles but also small skirmishes
Depending on how well this beta goes and how quickly the developers can implement the tester feedback, more testing phases will follow. However, the release of Camelot Unchained is planned for 2019.
