Crunch Time is a term that sends a chill down developers’ spines, as it means working around the clock. The MMORPG Camelot Unchained is now entering the Crunch Time.
Mark Jacobs, founder of City State Entertainment, defends the Crunch Time. He explains that while he is not a fan of it himself, they have decided to finally allow players to experience a beta. They do not want to disappoint the backers with yet another delay. Additionally, they want to avoid developer burnout, as they will be working five days a week, twelve hours straight.

However, some veterans on the team are used to very different Crunch Times. A seven-day week with 16-hour workdays is not uncommon; at least during Crunch Time, Camelot Unchained was still considered normal. Moreover, the team is highly motivated and is already delivering excellent results. Now, they would push a little harder to deliver a truly great beta. However, this does not mean that they plan to advance the release of the MMORPG. They will definitely take the time they need to make Camelot Unchained the game that fans want.
The team is making good progress
However, they are currently having problems finding programmers, and they still need a few. As most of the money has flowed into the mobile and VR industry over the past years, it has become difficult for game developers to find good programmers. However, the team has already achieved a lot.
This includes persistent items. When items are dropped in the world, they remain in the game and are not destroyed. They have also worked on animations, armor sets, and a dragon. It is even possible to destroy buildings on the test server – which is currently said to work completely exaggerated and needs to be optimized.
