The PvP MMO Camelot Unchained continues to delight fans with weekly updates. Last Friday, major news was announced with the “once-a-month” update, which hints at a beta.
In our last post the developers of Camelot Unchained teased that they are “moving at full speed” towards the first beta. This time, the information is a bit more precise, even though no concrete date has been announced yet.

The “Sprint” to Beta 1
In a one-and-a-half-hour livestream, lead designer and co-founder of CityStateGames, Marc Jacobs, explains what the plan looks like for the upcoming weeks:
- There were no releases from the “Thirty Day doc” last week, which is the monthly development plan, as something bigger is coming next week.
- This will focus on the social aspects of Camelot Unchained, including both smaller and larger groups as well as guilds.

- The development is in a “sprint” status, which aims to complete the most important feature for the first beta as quickly as possible: Sieges.
- To achieve this, every available resource will be allocated to the optimization of bow animations, scorpion shots, the crumbling of struck stone buildings, and more in the near future.
- The development is expected to last “the next 4-6 weeks”.
The development will be restructured
To achieve all this on time, the entire development of the game will be restructured in the near future. According to Tyler Rockwell, the lead environment artist, weekend testing of updates will now be skipped. This has slowed down the development process, as too many decisions had to be made that were only tested at the end of a week.

Instead, the team is now working with daily and spontaneous tests for new implementations. They want to quickly and effectively manage everything they need to prepare for the first beta. Instead of constant testing with thousands of bots, soon backers will be able to play.
How about you? Are you looking forward to the beta, or has the long wait already worn you down? Will you participate in the tests or just watch how everything develops? Leave us a comment!
