Although it is not yet confirmed, many players expect a release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 this year. The leak factory is already in full swing. A leaker claims that the perk “Last Stand” could return as a field upgrade, bringing back one of the most unpopular mechanics in the series.
What is it about?
- It is not official yet, but as of now, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 seems to be coming as CoD 2022.
- Initial information from supposed insiders is already circulating on the internet, with possible details about the new shooter.
- Leaks are included about possible perks and field upgrades. “Last Stand” is mentioned here, and parts of the community immediately take to arms.
“Damn it, no!”
What is “Last Stand”? The mechanic allows you to survive fatal hits and gives you the chance to be revived by a teammate.
The mechanic was more common in Call of Duty in the past. Sometimes you still had a pistol in hand, sometimes no way to defend yourself on the ground. Sometimes you could still crawl, sometimes you could only be revived in place.
To secure the kill, you had to deal one or in some CoDs even several shots to the enemy on the ground.
This is similar to the Battle Royale Warzone. Here every player has “Last Stand” if at least one teammate is alive or a self-revive is waiting in their inventory.
What has been revealed now? The Twitter leaker “@TheGhostOfHope” reports that “Last Stand” is possibly present in Modern Warfare 2:
The former perk is listed as a field upgrade in the game. The leaker writes: “I hope Infinity Ward removes this due to criticism before launch”.
What do players say about it? The American news site “CharlieIntel” asked on Twitter if players want “Last Stand” back. And the reactions are quite clear: No.
- @ItzzRenji on Twitter: “Last Stand is like that one kid in class that everyone hates because it reminds the teacher of homework.”
- @NovinskiMike_ on Twitter: “No, it makes no sense. You play poorly and are rewarded for it.”
- @concievd on Twitter: “God, no. Why would anyone want this to come back?”
The reactions were not too surprising. Nearly 11 years ago, at the presentation of Modern Warfare 3 (CoD of 2011), developers received loud applause when it was announced that “Last Stand” would not be in the game, as this tweet shows:

In fact, the perk was included in CoD MW 3 – much to the dismay of many players.
How likely is a return of “Last Stand”? It is currently difficult to assess, but there is one hint suggesting that the perk will not come to Modern Warfare 2 as a field upgrade.
Data miners had already found “Last Stand” as a field upgrade in CoD MW of 2019. However, the mechanic was not available in multiplayer at launch.
Many players now hope that CoD 2022 will be similar.
