According to a rumor, the next Call of Duty installment will bring a radical change to the shooter series: It is said to feature a pronounced science fiction setting in space.
While the last installments of the Call of Duty series, Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 3, took place in a relatively near future, this year’s upcoming CoD is expected to take a radical step forward and be set in a comprehensive science fiction context. There are even talks of space battles.
Multiple sources report on a space setting for the new Call of Duty
The first information regarding this was published by the industry insider Shinobi602 in the NeoGraf forum. The anonymous tipster has previously made unusually accurate predictions. His information aligns with reports that Eurogamer claims to have obtained independently.
These sources mention a complete science fiction scenario set in a distant future. Additionally, Shinobi hints at: “space combat”, meaning space battles.
This year’s CoD installment is being developed by Infinity Ward and is not intended to be a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Ghosts, which received mixed reviews in the past.
What these sources hold true remains to be seen. At E3 2016, we should receive more concrete information at the latest. Then Sony will officially present the latest installment of the series. The launch of the new Call of Duty is expected for PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One in November.
