Just before the start of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout Beta, numerous perks were revealed that will be available in the battle royale mode. However, the perks work a bit differently than what players are accustomed to.
In the traditional multiplayer modes of the Call of Duty series, perks have previously acted as permanent upgrades, providing the respective character with various bonuses. In the Blackout mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, a different approach has been taken.
In Blackout, perks give you temporary boosts and buffs
How do perks work? In the battle royale mode Blackout, perks represent a type of power-up that is scattered throughout the battlefield. According to the developers, these are consumable items – the benefits associated with the perks are therefore only temporary.
As studio design director David Vonderhaar states: “In Blackout, perks are consumable items. You collect them, you use them, and they have a timer.”

The following perks are currently known:
- Paranoia: Gives you an audio warning when an enemy has you in their sights.
- Outlander: You take less damage from the circle (play area boundary) and receive a speed boost when you take damage from the circle.
- Consumer: Reduces self-heal time by 20% when reviving teammates and using items.
- Skulker: You move faster while prone or crouched.
- Stimulant: Your health is increased by 100 points.
- Iron lungs: You can hold your breath longer – when diving or using the scope of a sniper rifle.
- Looter: You can see ammunition, health packs, weapons, and other items through walls.
- Dead Silence: Reduces the volume of your footsteps.
Try it yourself: And soon you will have the chance to try out these perks yourself. Because today, on September 10, 2018, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout Beta starts – initially on PS4. You can find all important details here:
