The new action RPG Diablo 4 is now available for pre-order. The first fans have already bought the game – some of them without paying directly for it. They simply used money from World of Warcraft for that. MeinMMO explains how this works and what you need to pay attention to.
How does the purchase work? For several years now, there has been the so-called “WoW Token” in World of Warcraft. This has two functions:
- you can buy it for €20 and then sell it to other players for gold in the game
- you can buy it in the game for gold and then redeem it for playtime or €13 credit in Battle.net
- in the guide, we explain to you how to properly use the WoW Token
The current price of the token is determined by the supply and demand of players in a region and is not set by Blizzard. The credit can be used to purchase other games like Call of Duty or the upcoming Diablo 4.
We explain here what is included in the editions of Diablo 4 and for whom the collector’s box is intended and in the article here how long it takes to earn the editions in WoW.
If you pre-order Diablo 4, you will also be able to participate in the closed beta, which is supposed to take place before the release on June 6. You can already find the first impressions from various testers in the first reports on Diablo 4. You can see the latest trailer here:

This is how long you need for the purchase: You can earn gold in World of Warcraft from many different sources. You get a significant amount while leveling up, but most of it comes from targeted “farming” at maximum level.
Various guides, for example on YouTube, promise an average of 80,000-120,000 gold per hour. MeinMMO demon Cortyn has also found a way to earn 600,000 gold in 6 hours without much effort.
Your earnings always depend on what exactly you find and how much you can get for it in the auction house. A token currently costs 258,965 gold on EU servers (as of December 19). So you would need for the purchase of Diablo 4:
- 6 tokens for the standard edition of Diablo 4 (€69.99) – This corresponds to about 1.55 million gold, or 15.5 hours on average
- 7 tokens for the deluxe edition of Diablo 4 (€89.99) – This corresponds to about 1.81 million gold, or 18.1 hours on average
- 8 tokens for the ultimate edition of Diablo 4 (€99.99) – This corresponds to 2.1 million gold, or 20.1 hours on average
Each decimal place is rounded up here because you cannot buy half tokens, but always need a full one. The collector’s box without the game cannot be bought with tokens, as you can only buy it in the Blizzard Gear Store. However, you cannot pay with Battle.net credit there.
Will it stay that way permanently? The token is currently at its lowest level in months (via wowtokenprices.com). This is partly because many players want to quickly accumulate gold with the release of Dragonflight and are buying tokens for that.
Traditionally, tokens become cheaper at a release and more expensive towards the end of an expansion. However, Dragonflight rewards you with quite large amounts of gold, which could mean that prices will not rise significantly for the time being.
At the moment, it is therefore difficult to say whether the token will soon rise significantly or even drop further.
Is it legal? Yes, Blizzard explicitly allows the use of Battle.net credit to purchase digital goods in the store. You should just not obtain gold from third-party sources, as this would violate the terms of use.
Diablo 4 will also have a battle pass with a paid path. You will probably be able to buy it with WoW gold as soon as it is released:
