Since January 4th, players in Final Fantasy XIV can purchase a new piece of furniture for their houses and apartments: a pole dance pole. However, the joy over the item was dampened by disappointment.
This is the item in question: On January 4th, FFXIV Patch 6.05 was released, bringing a range of new content. In addition to the epic mode for the raid Pandaemonium and the treasure map dungeon Euphoratron, there were also a lot of new items. Among them: a pole dance pole.
It is a new piece of furniture that can be placed in the players’ lodgings. It is available at the Gold Saucer Casino and costs only 2,000 MGP, which can be collected quickly by anyone.
Here’s how players are reacting: On Reddit , the item was received with humor. The large thread on the topic with over 5,400 upvotes was titled “New MGP item. They really did it” and was filled with comments like:
- “ERPers [erotic role players] have been buffed.” – BunnehCakez
- “Now we just need massage tables, and the game is perfect.” – Armisae
- “Now that they added the bunny boys, I’m all in.” – imchalk36
Accordingly, some players were looking forward to placing the item in their homes. However, this joy was dampened when overjoyed buyers noticed that it was not possible to interact with the pole.
The emote command /dance has no effect on it and only triggers the standard animations. The pole itself also seems to have no hitbox, so players can walk through it. This bad news understandably caused disappointment for some, as they were looking forward to extensive testing of the new piece of furniture.
Why did Square Enix implement a pole dance pole and not let us dance? Are we here just to suffer?
The creativity of the FFXIV community knows no bounds, and some disappointed players quickly repurposed the piece of furniture. Since it cannot be used as a proper dance pole, in some households it had to serve as a makeshift substitute for the toilet pipe.
Even though the pole dance pole did not deliver its intended effect or only partially did so, it has still provided some laughs.
Other players did not let the fun be ruined and posted screenshot after screenshot and videos of their characters with the pole dance pole.
Especially among players of the male Viera, who freshly became a playable gender in FFXIV with Endwalker, the new piece of furniture seems to be well received. On social media, you can find various videos and screenshots of bunny boys and the pole.
Where does the item come from? The pole itself is not a new item. In the Shadowbringers expansion, there was an establishment in Eulmore where you can see dancers interacting with the poles. Both genders have their own move sets that are specifically designed for this.
Some players therefore suspect that the pole dance pole is a sign that these emotes might soon appear in the cash shop.
So far, data miners have not found any signs of such emotes in the code. However, there is no doubt that the purchase interest will be quite high.
