Bungie had its big developer stream for the upcoming future of Destiny 2. In this, new content was presented and it was shown when the new expansion begins.
When will Destiny 2 continue? In Bungie’s latest stream, the future of Destiny 2 was discussed. It also talked about the launch of “Edge of Fate,” the new expansion, which is set to start after the “Light and Darkness” saga.
Fans still didn’t know when it would start, but the developers have now revealed the start date: July 15, 2025, is when it continues. In addition to a new expansion, there are also innovations that Bungie has reported on. We will show you what you can expect.
Out of Sol and into a new adventure
What has Bungie prepared? As already known, the year 2025 will receive two smaller expansions. The first content package is called “The Edge of Fate,” which is set to release in summer 2025, while the second will arrive in winter and is called “Renegade.”
The Edge of Fate allows Guardians to leave Sol, the solar system, for the first time to reach the planet “Kepler.” The theme and the new journey, which should entertain fans for years to come, revolve around the Nine – powerful beings that are older than the Traveler and seem to be much more complex than previously assumed.
In addition to leaving the solar system, there will be significant changes. These include:
- Armor 3.0
- New events
- Portal: a new interface for quickly overviewing activities
- A shooting range to test weapons
- Focus on simplification and accessibility to play activities
- There are now activities specifically for solo players
- Every activity should bring fans to the light level needed to play endgame, including PvP
- Activities can be equipped with new modifiers and the difficulty can be adjusted modularly

Bungie also emphasized that all activities newly associated with the expansion can be played by any player. So there is no more paywall. Lastly, the developers also provided a brief insight into the following expansion after The Edge of Fate. Renegade will be heavily inspired by Star Wars and will even feature well-known weapons from the franchise, including the famous lightsabers.
