In advance of E3 2019, Bungie announced the new autumn expansion Shadowkeep for Destiny 2 . At the event itself, they revealed where exactly the new storyline begins.
What we knew so far about the story of Shadowkeep: On June 6, Bungie finally revealed more about the future of Destiny 2. The game will receive a new expansion – Shadowkeep – this coming fall.
This leads the Guardians back to the moon of Earth. There, a force of the Hive has awakened and threatens to spread beyond the moon and plunge humanity back into an age of darkness.
Together with the missing Eris Morn, the Guardians will enter a mysterious citadel, where they must confront horrific “shadows” and “nightmares.” But it’s not just the Hive that threatens our existence. Something even more terrifying is said to have awakened deep in the Hellmouth.
This is what many Guardians are wondering: Many fans are curious about how the new expansion Shadowkeep fits into the storyline of Destiny 2. After all, content following the Forsaken expansion has focused on several side stories from the Destiny universe.
Moreover, new locations have so far been added according to a specific pattern. The spreading light of the awakened Traveler in the credits of the main game of Destiny 2 chronologically encounters all previous DLC locations. At the very end, it reaches the mysterious triangular spaceships associated with the Darkness.

This sequence has served fans as a sort of timeline for upcoming expansions. According to this system, after the Reef, the next would be Oryx’s Dreadnaught. By the way, the moon was hit first by the energy wave, but hasn’t appeared in the game so far.
This is what Bungie revealed at E3 2019: At E3 2019, Bungie provided more clarity. There, Destiny Franchise Director Luke Smith shared some new details.
The story of Shadowkeep will begin exactly where the main story of Destiny 2 ended – namely with the awakening of the Traveler from the mentioned video. The energy outburst essentially heralds what follows in Shadowkeep. The narrative in Shadowkeep is said to be the direct result of these events and continues them (i.e., the main story), according to Smith.
What can we expect? According to Smith’s statement, it is quite possible that we will finally learn in Shadowkeep what the pyramid-like ships are all about. Because it is precisely with their “awakening” that the events, which Shadowkeep is supposed to build upon in October, end.
That we might soon encounter these ships has already been hinted at in other parts of Destiny 2 – for example, in the invitations of the Nine or during the visit to the Queen’s Court.
