Bungie, the developer of Destiny 2, made a huge deal with the Chinese developer “NetEase” four years ago. Until now, no one knew which game was being developed, but now an employee from NetEase has broken the silence.
What deal did Bungie enter into? Four years ago, we reported that Bungie entered into a $100 million deal with the Chinese developer “NetEase”. The publishers of the space shooter wanted to create “new worlds,” which is why this deal came about.
However, until now, no one knew which game Bungie wanted to develop behind the scenes alongside Destiny 2, even though the Chinese publisher is known for MMOs and mobile games.
But an employee from NetEase has finally broken the silence, and the information that has emerged has caught the attention of Destiny fans.
An FPS mobile game in the style of Destiny
What is FPS? FPS stands for First Person Shooter. Basically, the perspective you are used to from Destiny 1 and 2.
What information is known about the game? The news site “TGP” received information from a source personally from NetEase, mentioning a new game in the Destiny universe. The game has now been in development for two years. However, it is still unknown when the game will be released and how the story is connected to Destiny 2, or if there is any connection at all.
The CEO of Bungie stated about the cooperation that NetEase has more experience in mobile, which Bungie can use to “incubate” new ideas.
Additionally, the space shooter studio is continuously hiring new employees to assist with and support new projects in this area.
What could a Destiny mobile game look like? It’s hard to estimate, as Bungie has not released anything regarding this. However, many well-known titles like Diablo Immortal and Call of Duty: Mobile have made it to mobile and show how they finance themselves, either through loot boxes or other in-game items that can be purchased.
If Bungie releases the FPS mobile game for free, it is conceivable that you will either have to pay a monthly subscription or be charged per season. Or Bungie wants to establish this game as an appealing entry point into the Destiny universe. However, both are just speculation.
It remains to be seen what direction the developer studio will take with their new project and how this spin-off will be connected to Destiny 2.
