3. Tails of the Fox
This is the Exotic weapon: Tails of the Fox is a rocket launcher that fires two cruise missiles at once. The solar rocket burns enemies, and the void charge suppresses opponents. Oh, and both projectiles are also homing.
How long has Tails of the Fox been in the game? Since the launch of Forsaken in autumn 2018, this rocket launcher can drop from all exotic sources.
In 2019, preorder customers of Shadowkeep received Tails of the Fox including an ornament as a pre-order bonus. Therefore, hopes were high that there would also be an exotic masterwork catalyst to find. Unfortunately, this has only been a dream to date.
This is what the catalyst could look like: Exotic rocket launchers are among the hallmarks of Destiny. Why shouldn’t Tails of the Fox get a piece of the action too?
It’s obvious to simply add a third rocket with arc damage. But why not go a step further and add a fourth charge with the new Stasis element.
Sure, the name won’t quite fit anymore. Alternatively, the four rockets could also be fired in two salvos, which would then require doubling the magazine size.
4. Infraction
This is the Exotic weapon: Infraction is a hand cannon that fires cursed rounds. If enough of them hit an enemy, there will be an explosion. The revolver deals extra damage against the Taken and even pesky Gambit invaders have to watch out.
How long has Infraction been in the game? Shortly after the launch of Forsaken in September 2018, the quest for Infraction went live. The lengthy and multi-stage task required a lot of work from Guardians in Gambit mode and in the Dreaming City.
This is what the catalyst could look like: The Taken revolver already offers quite a bit: extra damage, outstanding stats, and probably the largest magazine of all regular hand cannons, yet Infraction is unfortunately often overlooked.
- A natural suggestion would be to reduce the number of required projectiles from 5 to 4 or even 3. However, this could lead to serious balance issues in PvP – even now, the cursed rounds from multiple Guardians stack up and are, for example, a secret weapon against enemy supers.
- Alternatively, each explosion could reduce the number of projectiles until the next bang.
- The detonation could also be enhanced with a confusion effect, similar to what we know from the Helm of Saint-14.
By the way, there have been potential catalysts for various Exotics circulating in the data banks for some time now. According to these entries, Infraction is supposed to receive +20 range – more range is never wrong on hand cannons, but unfortunately a bit boring.
5. Wavesplitter
This is the Exotic weapon: Wavesplitter is a void linear fusion rifle, the Destiny version of a laser blaster. It stands out from its class cousins by the fact that the damage continuously varies between three levels. If you are lucky or have picked up an orb, the maximum damage hits hard.
How long has Wavesplitter been in the game? This question has two answers:
- If you play on PS4, you have access to Wavesplitter since late 2018
- Until the launch of Shadowkeep at the end of 2019, Guardians on all other platforms had to wait – only then was it possible to obtain the Exotic without tricks
By the way, there are already corresponding masterwork catalysts for arc and solar linear fusion rifles. Only the raid linear fusion rifle “Divinity” remains without enhancement, but it is already strong enough as it is.
This is what the catalyst could look like: The biggest advantage of Wavesplitter as a masterwork would be that the weapon could produce Orbs itself. Even now, the orb temporarily allows maximum damage and reloads automatically.
Additionally, no Guardian would refuse if a fourth, even more powerful damage level was added or the magazine was overloaded to 200 rounds (instead of the normal 100).
Which Exotics would you most like to see with a masterwork catalyst? And what should it be able to do? Does the hunt for improved Exotics motivate you, or should such a weapon ideally be released in its final form?
