In Destiny 2, not all Exotics have a masterwork form yet. We take a look at 5 weapons that desperately need their exotic masterwork catalyst in the next DLC.
Players of Destiny love hunting for powerful exotic weapons. These guns are not only usually above average in strength, they also come with crazy effects or sometimes break the rules of the game.
To give these special weapons the final touch, masterwork catalysts can be found, which then turn the respective weapon into a masterwork. However, not all weapons currently have access to these cool enhancements.
What do masterwork catalysts do? The catalysts are individually crafted for each weapon. For some models, the stats increase, while others gain additional perks. In addition, every masterwork weapon can create Orbs of Light.

Beyond Light would be perfect to bring the missing catalysts
In November 2020, the big autumn DLC Beyond Light was released. This would be a prime opportunity to bring the missing catalysts into the game and provide Guardians with more long-term motivation.
We take a look at Exotics in our list that desperately need an upgrade, as they unfortunately fall into obscurity. And the fact that a good catalyst can turn even an average weapon into a top Exotic is demonstrated, among other things, by the example of the exotic bow “The Trinity Ghoul”: Old Exotic suddenly belongs to the super weapons of Season 11
By the way, most weapons on this list have been in the game for several years. Exotics like Xenophage or Jötunn are not included here, as these monsters perform excellently even without a masterwork version.
1. Thousand Voices
This is the Exotic weapon: Thousand Voices is a heavy fusion rifle that fires a “death ray”. This laser causes everything it touches to explode after a moment. This allows players to clear entire rooms or deal heavy damage to a boss.
How long has Thousand Voices been in the game? Since autumn 2018, this Exotic can be obtained in the raid Last Wish. You have to fight your way through the entire raid and have quite a bit of loot luck.
In the last room, there are 24 chests where the weapon can randomly drop – regularly only 3 keys can be obtained per week if you raid diligently. Therefore, Thousand Voices is considered a relatively rare Exotic.
Since some Guardians were still missing Thousand Voices after more than 100 raids, a kind of anti-bad-luck mechanic for raid Exotics was implemented.
This is what the catalyst could look like: For a while, Thousand Voices outperformed everything in PvE. And it has to be, if a weapon can only be obtained through a very tough activity with much luck.
- If the catalyst provided a bullet-saving, alternate firing mode like a linear fusion rifle, the weapon would become useful again in many situations.
- It would also be interesting if you could bundle the entire magazine into a super laser that would cause even bigger explosions or true chain reactions – a similar mechanic is offered by the Exo Sniper Izanagi’s Burden.
2. Le Monarque
This is the Exotic weapon: Le Monarque is a combat bow and a true poison machine. The poison can even spread to whole groups if you land precise shots.
How long has Le Monarque been in the game? The Black Armory opened its gates in December 2018. Since then, the toxic bow can also be obtained.
About a year later, Shadowkeep made it possible for you to earn two weapon chamber Exotics much easier through a quest – Le Monarque is also included.
This is what the catalyst could look like: Recently, the catalyst for the bow “Trinity Ghoul” made that old Exotic suddenly a top weapon. Something similar could happen with Le Monarque. Ideally, the bow should further expand its poisonous properties.
As a masterwork, the poison could not only deal damage over time but also debuff the enemy – just like we know it from the debuff of the Tractor Cannon. A precise poison arrow would put a whole group of enemies in serious trouble and work well against bosses with a lot of adds. In PvP, teams would then need to be careful not to huddle too closely together.
