As Bungie announced at BlizzCon 2018, they are giving away Destiny 2 to every player who is registered on Blizzard’s Battle.net. To get the game for free, players only need an account on Blizzard’s platform.
This is what happened: During the presentation round at BlizzCon 2018, Game Director Steve Cotton appeared in the stream. While the hosts were still munching on Lucio-Oh’s, Cotton lurked in the background waiting for his turn.
Then he took a moment to praise the numerous advancements that Destiny 2 has made with the Forsaken expansion in 2018.
Finally, Cotton announced that they have a surprise and want to give every PC player the opportunity to see for themselves what great progress Destiny 2 has made.
Cotton announced that Bungie will gift Destiny 2 to every user on Battle.net on PC. They just need to claim the game.
How to Get Destiny 2 for Free
But players need to hurry: Players have until November 18 to claim their Destiny 2. After that, they can keep it forever.
To unlock Destiny 2, players must log in through Battle.net and then claim the game for themselves.
How you can get Destiny 2 for free: It can be done via the gifts page on Battle.net.
This is what players who already have Destiny 2 get: Those who already own Destiny 2 on PC will receive a “special anniversary emblem,” which should be available starting in December.
Is there another way to play Destiny 2 on PC? No, Destiny 2 can only be played on PC through Battle.net. There is neither a standalone launcher nor a Steam version.
These are the minimum system requirements for Destiny 2 on PC:
- Intel Core i3-3250, Intel Pentium G4560 or AMD FX-4350,
- GeForce GTX 660 2G, GTX 1050 2GB or Radeon HD 7850
- 6 GB RAM
- and 68 GB free storage.
- Internet connection required.
Is there a catch? The gift only includes the base game Destiny 2 – not the currently highly praised expansion “Forsaken.” Surely Bungie speculates that players will be so impressed with Destiny 2 that they will purchase the expansion.
However, there is no real catch. Destiny 2 is a game that can provide hours of immersive gameplay even without the expansion.
This is what Bungie adds as a bonus: To give free players a taste of Forsaken, the showcase mode “Gambit” will be free for everyone from November 9 to 11.
After PS4, now also on PC: The initiative is not entirely new. A month ago, Destiny 2 was part of the free PS Plus games for September 2018. To play Destiny 2 for free on PS4, players needed a PS Plus subscription.
Then they could claim Destiny 2 and continue playing it on their PlayStation 4 forever. Now, only a simple Battle.net account is required.
Only the beginning for BlizzCon: Bungie chose BlizzCon 2018 as the stage for this unexpected gift. Further reveals for Blizzard games are expected at this time. We will report extensively about it on MeinMMO.
