You love the story of Destiny 2 and know the confusing lore inside out? Then Bungie has a crazy job offer for you. And the chances aren’t bad, as your strongest competitor is already out of the race.
This is the job: Bungie, the developers of Destiny 2, are looking for a historian. Since June 29, 2021, you can officially apply for the position. The job posting is not aimed at sleepy university professors who always refer to the Third Punic War, but at a specialist in the story and lore of Destiny.
You’ve devoured every grimoire card since day 1 of the action MMO and know by heart that Oryx was once named Aurash and was actually born as a Hive girl? Then your dream job might be waiting here. “Destiny historian” will certainly look good on your resume. It’s a pretty cool job, thinks Bungie employee Max Nichols on Twitter:
You must be able to: First, you should bring “encyclopedic knowledge” of the Destiny universe. You are basically the last instance that oversees all story-relevant things from in-game lore snippets, cinematics, or descriptions of exotics. If someone at Bungie wants to know something about the history of Destiny, you are the contact person.
- Teamwork is very important for Bungie: in many parts of the job posting, collaboration with groups – both internally and externally – stands out as an important point. So, if you want to lock yourself away in your quiet little room, you have bad cards.
- You should review the scripts of the narrative teams and the creative team, be able to provide feedback and edit. The historian works very closely with this team of storytellers. So with the talented writers who create beautiful lore posts, which most players do not bother to read.
- Experience working with books, series, and even screenplay formats is sought.
- You also need negotiation skills – is it about negotiating the fee? Because money is not specified in the job posting.

All of this sounds like your dream job? There is a catch: You must prove residency in the state of Washington within 45 days of starting the job. This is where Bellevue is located, and Bungie’s headquarters is in this small town near Seattle. However, working from home is possible.

Among the Guardians, James Byford, better known as “My Name is Byf”, is considered the expert on the story and lore of Destiny. Why doesn’t Byf want it? Byf has already declined the seemingly tailored job for him.
