A free and large event full of content that is supposed to entertain players in Destiny 2 until the last DLC, but something seems odd. Since when has Bungie been so generous when it comes to content for the loot shooter?
What is the problem with the event? In fact, there is no problem in the traditional sense. The event is free and offers many ways to keep entertained until the release of “The Final Shape”. One could only criticize the timegating of some content from the “Into the Light” package, which aims to keep players engaged artificially longer, but aside from that, everything is fine, and that’s the problem.
Bungie has created a decent event with the resources they had, and even made it free for all players. And here comes the problem: Is it not strange that Bungie, especially in times when they currently need money the most, is being so generous? I’m telling you, we should be worried.
“My boy, let’s go fishing”
What could the free event mean? Even long-time Destiny streamer “Aztecross” finds Bungie’s newfound generosity unsettling (via youtube.com).
He himself addresses Bungie’s unusual behavior and compares it to a grandfather with whom one has never understood throughout life until he invites you fishing. He treats you nicely and lovingly on this trip, which you are not used to, only to show up at his funeral a week later.
Aztecross believes this is an indirect message to the community. A final thank you to the fans, to let them know it could be over soon. And although this may sound extreme, there might be something to it.
Bungie has never or only very rarely given things away for free to its community. This can especially be confirmed by veterans of the franchise. Additionally, Bungie is pulling out all the stops and even brings up three completely new PvP maps from their forge.
The reactions from the developers are also faster, and they respond to community feedback. The best example is the timegating. The developers wanted to distribute many weapons over several weeks, but then changed their plan and shortened this time.
It is unusual to see Bungie operate this way, as one is not accustomed to such behavior from the developers. In any case, it is clear that “The Final Shape” not only marks the end of the Light and Darkness saga, it could, depending on the success, also mean the end of Destiny 2 and the end of Bungie, should the sales figures not meet what Sony wants.
Do you also find it strange that Bungie has become so generous? Do you think it is a sign and a final thank you, or is there nothing behind it? Let us know in the comments!
