Veterans will remember: In Destiny 1, the week around Valentine’s Day was celebrated with a special event in 2016. Bungie now confirms that the Crimson Week will return in Destiny 2 !
What is Crimson Week?
The “Crimson Week” event is meant to celebrate Valentine’s Day. For this occasion, the Tower was festively decorated with roses and hearts back in February 2016. New cosmetic items were introduced, and a special PvP mode was held.
This Crucible mode was playable only as a “Couple”; you had to find your partner yourself – there was no matchmaking.
The special thing about this mode called Crimson Doubles was the modifier “Broken Heart”: When your partner dies, you are driven by vengeance, you glow red, can draw your weapon faster, and recover from damage taken more quickly. This way, seemingly lost matches could still be turned around.
In the game files on PC, clear hints have now been discovered that Crimson Week will return in Destiny 2. The information was compiled by Redditor Ginsor. He found symbols and text lines that explicitly refer to it.
At first, there was uncertainty whether this was a well-made fake. But now Bungie’s Community Manager Cozmo confirmed on Reddit that Crimson Week will return. The rumors are true, he writes. The event will not play out exactly like in 2016, but yes, Crimson Week is coming back. More official information will be available on Thursday.
Can we expect only cosmetic items again?
The Redditor Ginsor, who published the information, speaks of many new cosmetic items and a direct link to Eververse. He supports this with scripts he found in the depths of the game files (freely translated):
- Guardians honor their indestructible bonds with their partner on and off the battlefield by participating in the Crucible event Crimson Week. But first, follow the rose petals in the Tower to Tess Everis – she has something for you.
- “Talk to Tess Everis to receive your first Crimson Week Engram as a gift!”
The following cosmetic items have been allegedly associated with Crimson Week by the Redditor:
- Emotes
- Ghosts
- Ornaments
- Shaders
- Mods
- Transmat effects
- Sparrows
Further texts suggest that there will be bundles available for purchase in Eververse again. Additionally, a special ghost is supposed to count the kills you achieve during Crimson Week. An overview of the cosmetic items was provided as well:

Even if much suggests that the Crimson event revolves mainly around Eververse, the Redditor warns that the game files had already been present before the onset event. It is therefore conceivable that Bungie has made adjustments based on player feedback in the meantime that have not yet made their way into the game.
Crimson Week in the Crucible
According to the texts found in the game files, the PvP event will likely run similarly to 2016:
- “Talk to Lord Shaxx to learn more about his love for Crimson Week.”
- “Shaxx congratulates you and your partner for contested battles and deserved victories during Crimson Week – and rewards you for it!”
- “Complete Crimson Doubles matches”
- “Win a Crimson Week match in Sudden Death”
These scripts imply that the Crimson Doubles mode will return. More information is not yet known. What ‘Sudden Death’ will be, we will see.
What does the raid have to do with Crimson Week?
Unlike in Destiny 1, Crimson Week will likely also influence the raid this time. How exactly this will play out is not known, as the Redditor found no text passages regarding it.
