Steam has a new horror shocker with multiplayer that is performing excellently just over a week after release. The Outlast Trials is still in Early Access, but the initial reactions are promising.
What kind of game is this? The Outlast Trials is a prequel to the Outlast series, known for its psychological horror. The games play with your fears and dark expectations. Until a nasty butcher actually strikes.
Outlast has a good standing among fans of the genre. They wanted to try this out as a co-op experience.
The Outlast Trials is a kind of escape room simulator. With 4 players, you have to solve puzzles through the crazy rooms, constantly under stress, filled with paranoia and horrible figures that want to get your skin. MeinMMO shows you the first reactions.

How is the game received? The Outlast Trials has been available in Early Access since May 18 and has since gathered over 12,500 ratings. The reviews are “Very Positive,” with 94% rating the game with a thumbs up.
If you enjoy such horror adventures, it seems a new hit is emerging here despite the high price of 28.99 euros for an EA title (via Steam).
Many praise the excellent performance and the few bugs in the game. That is not so commonplace nowadays, even the biggest games currently allow themselves many bugs and performance stress.
We have gathered a few matching reviews for the game:
- User Honigmurmel: “Fabulous way to start therapy. Died twice just before the end […]. We saw a penis and a crazy man. 10/10, it psychologically scarred me […].”
In the reviews, one can repeatedly read how brutal the scenes are and that there are always sexualized references. A hardcore game for adults without mercy.
- User riorizzor: “Clean performance, fun gimmicks for the in-game voice chat, and mega fun in co-op. As Early Access for 28.99 € absolutely recommended! There are still good game developers in this world.”
- User PascalJogurt: “Basically a mean Takeshi’s Castle.”
However, some players also have some complaints. Currently, the content is limited, which leads to the gameplay loot becoming monotonous over time. The comment is from a player with 15 hours of gameplay. However, there are also players with up to 60 hours.
The Outlast Trials is a game for horror lovers who have just as crazy friends. Keep an eye on the title if you enjoy this kind of thing.
