Rank 6: Benedict’s offer is less direct

What happens in the series? After Sophie has been working for the Bridgertons for some time, Benedict finally realizes that he wants to be with her. When the two meet in the unusually empty Bridgerton house, he makes her an offer: she should become his mistress, his illegitimate lover. Sophie is not pleased with the idea and withdraws immediately. After all, such an affair would ruin her socially.
What happens in the book? In the book, Benedict makes his offer much earlier. The two are still at the country house, and similar to the series, Sophie observes Benedict while he is swimming. After Benedict notices this, the crucial scene occurs. He asks Sophie if she wants to be with him.
Substantively, this is hardly different from what he suggests in the series. In both cases, Sophie understands that she is only supposed to be a mistress. Nevertheless, book Benedict seems a bit more considerate and not so clumsy, which is why Sophie hesitates longer before she turns away from him.
