Rank 9: Sophie had to steal to survive
What happens in the series? After Sophie’s strict stepmother Araminta learns about the secret outing to the masquerade ball, she is anything but pleased. She dismisses Sophie from her services and throws her out of the house.
In this difficult situation, at least her stepsister Posy shows her a bit of kindness. She slips Sophie a small farewell gift to support her financially for a time.
What happens in the book? Although Posy is also a very kind person in the book, the farewell gift is not present. To secure her survival, Sophie steals the jewelry instead, before leaving the house.
This difference is not particularly big. However, it highlights the difficult situation Sophie is in. Moreover, it makes Sophie not seem so innocent and perfect as in the series.
