Rank 1: Time jump after the masquerade ball
What happens in the series? In the series, it seems as if Benedict and Sophie meet again only a few weeks – at most a few months – after the masquerade ball. This makes it so frustrating for many viewers that Benedict does not immediately recognize his lady in silver. At the latest after the two come closer and even kiss, Benedict should realize, right?
What happens in the book? As in other places, the timeline in the books is a bit different. After the masquerade ball, two full years pass before Benedict sees the lady in silver, that is, Sophie, again. One can of course still wonder how realistic it is that Benedict does not at least recognize Sophie when they come closer. However, the time jump at least makes it somewhat more realistic. If you see someone only briefly and then meet them masked, you probably wouldn’t remember exactly how the person’s lips looked after two years.
