In the team battle game Breakaway, the new stealth assassin Jarra has now been introduced, aiming to shake up the arena. Gameplay changes are intended to make controls easier.
Breakaway is a team battle by Amazon Game Studios, where two teams of four players each compete to be the first to reach 3 points. It is still in development. Based on community feedback, there will now be some changes to Breakaway that aim to improve the game. Players complained about movement and various aspects of the battles.
Gameplay Changes in Breakaway
Movement
- Due to alpha feedback, some changes have been made to the game to simplify movements. Players can now move while attacking, which should make gameplay significantly smoother. Additionally, a new camera angle allows you to aim better with your abilities. Another important point is that you can now strafe left and right in Breakaway.
Using Abilities
- Previously, it was problematic to gauge the range of various character abilities. The distance a sprint covered or how far a bullet flew was hard to discern. To make this easier in the future, the ability system has been worked on. There are now three options for how you can cast spells and attacks: Double Tap, Press-Release, and Smartcast.
- Double Tap: You click once on the key of an ability to see its area of effect. A second click confirms the usage.
- Press-Release: As long as you hold down the ability key, you will see its area of effect. Releasing the key will trigger the skill.
- Smartcast/Single Tap: Pressing the ability key will cast it immediately.
Buildables
In Breakaway, you can build devices or items that assist you in the game. For example, Thorgrim can construct a huge wall that blocks opponents. Anne Bonny can set up a trampoline that propels you into the air. Although these buildables sound fun, they have rarely been used in the game. When they were used, chaos ensued too quickly in the game.
Warriors in Breakaway can now create only one buildable instead of two after the changes. However, the constructed items have more health points. When they are destroyed, the gold goes directly to the destroying team (200 gold for the last hitter, 100 gold for the rest of the team) – The gold reward for destruction has been reduced. Additionally, some warriors now have different buildables than before due to balance changes.
Gold
Many players had trouble collecting gold during matches. Since the gold rewards for destroying buildables have been reduced, there are now additional ways to earn gold.
New:
- Passive Gold Income
- Gold reward for assisting with a point
- Increased gold rewards for kills and their assists
New Assassin “Jarra”
Jarra is a stealth assassin that has now been introduced by the developers. She has a low number of health points, but deals high burst damage to single targets. With these stats, she plays like a typical assassin who should take advantage of the element of surprise to influence the game. If she gets discovered, she quickly runs into problems due to her low health points.
In the following video, you can see the abilities of Jarra, her buildable, and how to sneak up on opponents with her.
