The Borderlands spin-off Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands delights not only critics and players. Even the boss of Studio Gearbox is quite touched by the good review echoes that his latest game has conjured up.
What kind of game is this? Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was released on March 25 and is a spin-off of the famous Borderlands series from developer Gearbox. However, this time it’s not about vault hunters, crazy psychos, and ruthless mega-corporations.
Rather, you play the protagonists of a Pen&Paper role-playing game led by the legendary and crazy character Tiny Tina. The game is named “Bunkers & Badasses” in reference to Dungeons & Dragons, and anyone who has played Borderlands 2 will surely recognize it.
Because back then, there was already a DLC called “Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep,” which took up this crazy theme. At that time, the wacky role-playing game was also Tina’s attempt to cope with the death of a loved one.
As the DLC was extremely popular, the idea of a replayed tabletop role-playing game became its own stand-alone spin-off.
And even if the game is basically just “another Borderlands,” it captivates players and critics alike, and receives top ratings on Metacritic. This especially pleases the controversial boss of the studio, Randy Pitchford.

Who is Randy Pitchford? Randy Pitchford is the CEO of Studio Gearbox and overall a controversial figure in the gaming industry. He has been involved in scandals regarding fraud, his accidentally lost porn collection, and most recently an alleged assault on an employee.
During a confrontation, Pitchford stuck a wet finger in an employee’s ear. Nevertheless, Pitchford is still the CEO of Gearbox.
What are the reactions? Pitchford is over the moon on Twitter about the success of “his” game. He first reacted to the excellent review from Game Informer on Twitter. They referred to it as “The best game from Gearbox Software,” to which Pitchford could only respond with the bold words “Holy Shit!”
Later, he doubled down and further commented on the good reviews:
“I’m not really the type to get hung up on scores, but 9.5/10 … I’m not crying, you’re crying!”
Pitchford here self-deprecatingly plays on his image as a tough guy while admitting that such positive reviews bring him to tears.
